Please please go here and vote for Minneapolis so GRO comes back here in the fall!

- The clothing part of my CONvergence costume is almost complete. This makes me happy. I started experimenting with makeup tonight and it's...coming along. My accessories are really the last big thing.

- What are you doing on June 17th? You should be at Bowling for Boobs III! There's bowling and a silent auction and it's all for a good cause. Be prepared, I am definitely dragging some of you guys with me!

- holy cow do I love the new Grace Potter & The Nocturnals album!

- Green River Ordinance tomorrow! if you local types aren't doing anything tomorrow afternoon, you should come to their acoustic in-store at the Best Buy in Roseville at 2pm! Free music and nice rock boys. What could be better?

- Anyone up for a game of Fuck, Marry, Kill? I'm bored! Give me 3 people. Or characters. Whatever.

One of the local radio morning shows was making fun of songs on each others iPods this morning. Out of the 13 songs they were ragging on, I have 11 of them in my iTunes and 7 of those actually on my iPod. I am so not cool.

But seriously, you can't make fun of Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)'! It's a great song! I still own an actual 45 of it!

In other news, the L&O: CI episode on Tuesday night was sort of built around a Great Big Sea Alan Doyle solo song. That's pretty awesome. I'm so excited about getting to see GBS for free for two nights in August!
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
A new doggie!

My parents were looking for a dog for my Dad's aunt. Annnnnnnnd found one for themselves instead. Surprising, I know. She was found abandoned about three months ago. They don't think she was abused or anything, but she needed some medical care and she does have Cushing's Disease. That's what Riley had and what Earl has now so my parents are experienced with caring for it. They think she's around 10 years old and she's very tiny. A big difference from Riley's gigantor size. She was over for a visit yesterday and Earl pretty much wanted nothing to do with her. But I'm sure they'll adjust to each other. She's coming to live with them next weekend and I can't wait to meet her!

Since she was abandoned they don't know her name. The foster lady has been calling her NeNe. Uhh, WUT? My mom wants Allie or Molly. I'm pushing for Maisie or Isabella. I hope I win this one.

So yeah. Exciting! It's going to be weird that she won't really feel like my dog at all since I don't live here anymore. We got Riley while I still lived at home so he was always my dog even after I moved out.

In other news, I got recognized today at work. "You're on Facebook!" Uhhh, yeah? "I recognized you by your hair." It wasn't a total stranger or anything - she was the younger sister of someone I went to school with - but it was still a little odd.

We got some new CDs in and one of them has a version of "Musetta's Waltz" on it. The only reason I recognized it was because of RENT. I totally fail at classical music.
leighblack: (Cobra - Secure Dude)
I was totally wrong. The internet is going to explode today, not on Friday.

An Important Message From Fall Out Boy
Folie a Deux no longer has a release date.
leighblack: (Cobra - Gabe is a Fucking Rock Star)
You guys, "The Kids Are All Fucked Up" works way too well as a lounge song. I have visions of Gabe dressed in a leopard print smoking jacket while entertaining the old guys sitting in a smoky bar with vinyl booths. And it totally works.

I have all kinds of things I need to get done today, none of which are work related.

My brain is apparently dead this morning and not offering up anything meaningful to write about. Let's have some last.fm stats instead.
in which there seems to have been a 1969 album released )
leighblack: (Wild - State of Hockey)
- The Minnesota Wild won their division for the first time ever!! This is awesome and I am SUPER exicted!!

- I got to see Henry for the first time in 2 1/2 months, since I am finally not sick and he is settling in at home. It was also quite nice to visit with [livejournal.com profile] taylorea for a while.

- My 1969 CD showed up! So did my Amazon UK order, with all three new Torchwood books and my cherished John Barrowman CD. ♥

- The new Madonna video is super hot, even if it makes zero sense. While I was hitting the iTunes store to buy the video, I decided to check for the sexay Matt Nathanson video for "Come on Get Higher." They finally had it, so I now own a copy for myself. Yum!

- I think I now have everything together for our Torchwood party tomorrow. If I ever doubted that I was crazy, these party preparations have confirmed it.

- I spent my entire drive home from work with the window rolled down and Cobra Starship cranked on the radio while singing at the top of my lungs. Man, I love spring!

Is it really going to fucking snow again on Sunday? *sigh*
leighblack: (Sven - Waving on St. Patty's Day)
Oh my goodness, you guys! I now have over 30,000 mp3s loaded into my iTunes! And I still have tons more sitting here that I haven't done anything with yet. That's completely ridiculous! When the hell am I going to listen to all this stuff??

To do list for tomorrow:
- Laundry
- Manicure
- Hair color?
- Pack to crash at [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin's for the night

The AT&T commercial about getting yourself a Sven seriously cracks me up everytime I see it. Because of course I want my own Sven! Just not some giant, buff Nordic guy. More like an adorable, elfin weather guy. ;)

In closing, my last.fm stats, in which I listened to the last of the Christmas music for quite a while )
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
Ow. I obviously slept weird last night and pinched something in my neck. Again. I can only turn my head to my shoulder, and even that hurts. Looking behind me is definitely out. No money for a massage this week though. Any volunteers to give me one? ;)

This week's theme over in the Seekrit Music community is "Music We Grew Up With." I downloaded a bunch of stuff I haven't listened to in years so I can post it. Stuff I only have on vinyl or maybe cassette. It's terrible that I can listen to it and still remember all the words. Also, looking at the list of stuff I'm going to post makes it apparent that there is something mentally wrong with me. Seriously, it's all over the place. You'll see when I start posting it later this week.

This weekend was pretty boring. I had to work at Hallmark all weekend. Boo. And I had to help my mom set up the new ornament display. Ugh. I finally grabbed the book from her and started doing it myself since I was tired of her bitching. It didn't help that I was crampy and tired and cranky. But it got done and actually looks kind of cute. I also had to check in all the new ornament stock and pull all the orders for customers. No one else at the store is organized enough to be able to do it. Including our manager. =/

Also, listen. If you want to stand there and open all of the sound cards, whatever. Have fun. But for God's sake, don't come up to the counter and open them directly in my face and go on and on about how great that song is. Yes, I've heard it before. Yes, I've seen the card before. Can you just shut it? Please?

Also also, I will never ever get the women who carry around those fucking suitcases and then have to lug them onto the counter and dig through them for 5 minutes and take all kinds of junk out just to find their credit card, all the while going on about how they hate that purse because it has too many pockets or they can't find anything or needs to be cleaned out. No one is forcing you to carry that thing around. Clean it out, decide what you really need and carry a smaller purse. Really, it's possible. Sometimes I even go out with only what's in my pockets.

Also also also? Our store is next to a Curves. Can I please put out a plea to the Curves women? If you want to shop at our store after your workout, that's fine. But for the love of God, go out to your car first and put your workout stuff in there before coming into the store. Because carrying your smelly shoes around our store? Kind of disgusting. Putting your smelly shoes on our counter when you're checking out? Really disgusting. Setting your DIRTY SOCKS on the counter? Completely unacceptable. And this has happened more than once.

So, other than getting Hallmark rage, I also hung out with my family this weekend. I stopped by on Friday to see how Earl was doing and he was still kind of bad. He was shaking and didn't want to be touched. But he was better on Saturday and let me scratch him under the chin for a little while. He even came out from under the bed to see me. Riley is also doing much better. He's back to ignoring me at will. Stubborn dog.

I spent an infuriating amount of time trying to get my parent's cable modem to work with a wireless router. Comcast gave them some new modem and it works like shit. I never did get it to work with the router. But I did finally get the modem to recognize my mom's laptop when we had it connected by wire, so we called DJ. It was 10:30am there and he was just getting up. Unfortunately, his webcam was broken so I didn't get to see him, but I did talk to him for a while. It's some sort of Thanksgiving-type holiday in Korea this week, so he was taking a vacation to some tropical island with some of the other teachers at his school. He's going to learn how to surf! Sounds like he's having a great time. He's definitely not home sick.

Other than that, I watched a lot of TV and futzed around on the computer. Kind of a typical weekend.
leighblack: (Drive - Bitch Plz)
Is the Fall Out Boy/Kanye West Remixes CD something official? Or did some dudes just mash some stuff together? I am intrigued.

OH MUH GOD. The new Britney Spears songs is H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E. Seriously. Stop it, Brit.

On the other hand, the leaked Madonna song is pretty decent. I dig it.

I now have the Doctor Who theme on my phone. Just hit me with the DORK stamp, okay?

Someday I'm going to write something meaningful in my journal. But today is not that day.
leighblack: (Sven - Netted)
Well, I was going to bed until the sky turned into WWIII above me. Violent storms != a restful night.

But it does mean that I've gotten a night full of Sven on the TV. I won't complain about that.

My way to work is completely flooded out right now. Will it be drained in six hours when I'm driving in the morning? Who knows??

Anyhow, I know a couple of you would be interested in this news: Dan Wilson's Free Life solo CD set for release on October 16. Although you probably already know that. But you can listen to the first single?

I lose all feeling in my right hand about three times a day now. It might just be about time to finally see a doctor about my carpal tunnel. But since we're getting a new insurance carrier on July 1st, I guess I'll wait until then. Maybe this will get me out of painting the cabin over the 4th of July week. Probably not.

I'm listening to Julia Murney's CD right now. I was looking forward to hearing it since I enjoyed seeing her as Elphaba in Wicked last year. But I have no idea how to explain this CD. There's something terribly wrong with it. Her voice is fine, but the rhythm of the songs is just...odd. Not quite right. And some of the lyrics are very weird. Maybe I'll post a couple songs tonight.

A few weeks ago, I posted this meme about making a friends list playlist. But I posted it right before Memorial Day so I didn't get a lot of participation. =( So, let's try it again!

I'd love to have a playlist made up of songs from the fabulous people on my friends list (and if you can read this, clearly you're one of them.) Comment with one or two songs you'd like me to associate with you. It can be your favorite song in the whole world, a song that people have said reminds them of you, or any song that you think really identifies you (feel free to explain why, if you like.) If you can upload the song(s) for me, that would be fab, but it's not necessary. I probably have most of the songs already anyways. I just want a shiny new playlist that I can listen to at work and think of all of you!

If you already gave me your songs, then no need to play again. I already have them in my playlist!

Since I'll probably be around this weekend, I'm thinking of taking music requests. Would anyone be interested?
leighblack: (Homicide - Part of Me Laughs)
Today I am giving myself a crash course in Great Big Sea before I see them on Saturday. That combined with this weekend's overdose of Gaelic Storm and...well, I don't think I've ever quite wanted a drink more than I do right now. Silly Irish folks and their awesome drinking songs!

I elect that we all get an extra day off for Daylight Savings weekend. This morning HURT.

I had my monthly meeting with my boss today. We spent about 5 minutes talking about work and 25 talking about going out to bars and my upcoming trips out of town. I take that as a sign that she's not too worried about my work performance. =) I also scored getting the whole week off for 4th of July. Sweet!

I remembered the 12 of 12 today, but my hair looks like shit. So don't expect too many photos of me.

Only 55 minutes left. I hope I can make it!
leighblack: (Sven - Sven & Abby)

Where's the ginormous snow storm that's supposed to wreak havoc upon our lives?? The impending storm was the top story on the Kare 11 website earlier, but they bumped it down. Must not be quite as horrible as was forecasted.

Still, it inspired this line in Sven's blog today: "if you see your local meteorologists this weekend, give them a hug, they'll need it!" Yes indeed, Sven. A hug shall be given.

Haha. I just noticed that Kare 11 totally changed Sven's blog for today. It was all about the storm and how hard it is to predict the weather correctly. Now it's just about how we're going to get some much needed moisture. And the line about giving him a hug is gone too. That's funny that it's all been changed.

I downloaded this awesome collection of songs titles "The Complete 90's" this week. I have a lot of 90's music already, although my collection leans towards grungy stuff and butchy chicks with guitars. This collection, however, has a lot of cheesy pop crap and it is fabulous! I'm listening to 1990 today and have gotten such wonderful gems as Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" and James Ingram's "I Don't Have the Heart." "How am I Supposed to Live Without You?" is farther down the list and I can't wait!
leighblack: (The Office - Smack That)
Dear Internets,

I love you more than ever today! I was finally able to find a good quantity of Stargunn songs, besides the two I had already. Stargunn was Shooter Jennings' rock band before he decided that he probably shouldn't be playing in a rock band. But OMG! I love the idea of him playing rock!!

Yes, [livejournal.com profile] geneli4 I see you over there glaring at me. I will post the songs! Some of them are in wma though, so I need to do some converting magic first. WMA?? The nerve of people!

Also, you all are SO fired! How come nobody told me about Cartel? I listened to their CD yesterday and LOVED it! More than the Cute is What We Aim For CD I listened to today. (Sorry, Sammi. I'm trying though!) [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin, maybe we won't be leaving the show early after all. =)

I have this new thing I'm trying. After I acquire some new music - all by entirely LEGAL means, of course - I put it on my iPod and actually listen to it. Normally new music just sits on my computer for ages until I maybe get around to listening to it someday which could be months away. I have tons of music I've never listened to! What's the point of having it then?? So, now I'm trying to listen to it right away and it's going okay. I've listened to 13 new CDs so far this week!

I AM GOING TO SEE CHUCK KLOSTERMAN IN TWO DAYS!!!

I've worked at Hallmark the past two nights and have managed to finish an entire 300 page book. It's an intense, busy-every-second job that's for sure. =/

I think my boss is going to try to steal Sam the Squid off my desk. She was eying him most appreciatively today. I'm not giving him up!!

I have this nagging feeling that I agreed to do something tomorrow night but I have no idea what it is. Also, I have a nagging feeling that I should take Friday off. But I just got this project that's due next week and I should probably be in the office to work on it. Still, I've only taken one day off so far this year and it's already almost two months over. I still have 30 days I have to take off. That's 6 weeks! I need to get cracking on it.

I have done nothing but drink water constantly for the past four days. I am Ultra-Hydrated Girl! Why am I so thirsty??

I think there was more I wanted to write about, but it's completely left my mind. I think you can tell I'm a little scatterbrained today. =/
leighblack: (Chad - You Rock Hardcore!)
Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] dragonessasmith!

This looks like a good way to kill some time on a Sunday night )

OMG! Someone needs to come to the State Fair with me on Sept 2nd!! It's now my life's goal to use the fact that it's my 30th birthday as a gimmick to get myself on the KARE-11 weather broadcast and meet Sven Sundgaard!! IT WILL HAPPEN!

*ahem*

In other news, I'm kind of running out of ideas for music to post. Especially since all I seem to listen to anymore is Butch Walker. Does anyone have any requests or suggestions? A certain genre? My top 20 favorite songs? Songs that start with K? Whatever. I have over 12,000 songs in my iTunes now, so I can pretty much fill any request. Also, My Big Damn List of Music is still out there for you to look at, and sort of up to date.
