I'm home! It was a fun & crazy weekend. I'm exhausted. Maybe I'll write up an actual concert review. Probably not. We'll see. I do have photos and video that I may get around to posting.

I spent $195 on merch. Yes, one hundred and ninety-five dollars. Crazy. But I got two Fall Out Boy shirts, a FOB hoodie, a Cobra shirt, Cobra sunglasses and my super-hot Cobra Thriller hoodie.

I have a ton of things I should be doing tonight. Instead I'm probably going to be staring blankly at the TV.

So yeah, hi. I'm home. That was the most brutal drive home from Michigan ever. DO NOT WANT blizzard. Also, I've pretty much lost my voice. Good thing Butch Walker is worth it!

I'm sure I'll try to write some jumbled, disoriented trip review at some time. But not tonight since I'm exhausted. Have a couple lovely photos instead.

Buuuuuuutch )

We have one more Butch show to go - tomorrow night! And we're getting into the soundcheck/meet & greet! I'm a little freaked out about it, but it'll all be good by tomorrow.

Just checking in from [livejournal.com profile] sammipunk's house before we leave for Grand Rapids. Last night's Butch Walker show in Detroit was A-MAZE-ING! I'm so enamored with that man. I was standing on the first tier, directly in front of his mic, and was pretty much eye-level with him. It kind of felt like he was singing just to me a few times. ;)

I'm having a great time. It's raining today though and that will make standing in line tonight a little more miserable. Then back home tomorrow, with a pit stop in Chicago to have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] moryssa!

I'm getting ready to take off for the wilds of Michigan with [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin! I will, of course, be bringing Crow T. Laptop with me and I'm sure I'll be Twittering a LOT over the next few days.

Locals! If you're not doing anything on Monday night, Butch is playing at the Varsity. Tickets are still available! It'll be a great time, I promise!
leighblack: (Cobra - Reading Fanfic)
I'm kind of spammy today, I know. But I want to make sure I get these videos posted! Who knows when I'll get a recap of the trip to Madison posted? Until then, here's some video from Empires!

Anywhere and Under the Bright Lights under the cut )

Also, there's this photo:

I did indeed already fill all 50 of my new icons slots last night. I put some of my old icons back on and a whole crop of new ones too. I hardly even know which ones to use first!

Today looks like it might not be full of fail. ::crosses fingers:: I really, really hope I don't have to bring the work laptop with me on our road trip so I can work in the car. =/

Oh, did I mention that? I probably didn't! I somehow managed to get the entire weekend off from Hallmark and I'm going with some of the usual suspects to Madison to see Forgive Durden & Empires tomorrow night. YAY!

Also? I have Monday off from the day job. Yes, that's THREE WHOLE DAYS OFF. In a row! In December! I must have done something karmically good.

Also? I'm going to Wicked one more time on Sunday night too. It's closing night and my seats are pretty awesome. But my sister backed out on me. Anyone want to go? My treat. First come, first serve! And it's gone to [livejournal.com profile] jmasterflash!

I decorated my table at work with the tackiest tree ever. I love it!

Don't forget to give me your name & address if you want a holiday card! This is probably the last time I'll post about it. I'm planning to get them all done on Monday. Planning be the key word there.
leighblack: (Kasey - The Sun Would Shine)
I'm currently sitting in [livejournal.com profile] xiolablux's living room, here in Chicago. [livejournal.com profile] duckduck and I had a fabulous time at the Kasey Chambers show last night! I have all kinds of video that I might get around to posting sometime eventually. But our drive sucked and it actually took NINE hours to get here. It usually takes me six. =/

We're working on getting ourselves in a presentable fashion and then we're going to hang out with [livejournal.com profile] bibliogrrl for a while. And then it's Skid Row tonight!

Also, yaaaaaaarrrrr! =)
leighblack: (DW - Armed & Dangerous)
I'm still alive. Well, my brain might argue with that one today. But I made it through the weekend and it was great! Highlights include:

- Making fun of pretty much every single thing in Mason City, Iowa
- Prime n' Wine/Vince Gill birthday weekend, let's book it!
- I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] urbanbluesky finally!
- I'm a big enough dork that I downloaded Doctor Who using the hotel's internet, converted it to mp4 and then watched it on my iPod while lying in bed
- Was that a great episode or what?
- We cheated on the Denny's in Clear Lake

Last night was the The Audition/Hit the Lights/Every Avenue/The Morning Light/Kiros show. We've seen The Audition before but didn't know what to expect from the other bands. We were pleasantly surprised!

Kiros - Okay, we missed their set. But the band members were walking around all night dressed in SKIN TIGHT jeans in colors like pink and purple. Interesting.

The Morning Light - Good, not great. A little too mellow for this tour. I was confused why they have a lead singer when their keyboardist did most of the singing and had a much better voice.

Every Avenue - I like their album, but it's pretty pop-based. They aren't anything like that live. They totally rocked! Jaime & I both were like "Oh yeaaaaah..." =) I'd definitely see them again.

Hit the Lights - They rocked too, but I wasn't into them as much. Their songs weren't as good as Every Avenue's. But the kids were sure into them. There were several mosh pits created during their set.

The Audition - I seriously love this band. They are the step-child of Skid Row, for sure. Something like that anyways. They're fun and the crowd was pretty wild. Good times!

I got home too late to catch the Rock of Love finale, but I did catch part of the replay. Wow. It's too bad this season was so boring. It sounds like there's a good cat fight on the reunion show though.

I have a million things to do this week and no time to do them. Awesome. Tomorrow night is the Sara Bareilles show, which I'm looking forward to. I'm not looking forward to the fucking pseudo-hipsters though. Give me a show with the kiddies any day. At least they actually enjoy themselves. And I leave for Detroit on Thursday! YAY!

Hockey playoffs tonight! Hopefully I can stay awake long enough to watch the game. This is questionable because I'm fairly exhausted.

Can Monday be over yet??
leighblack: (TW - It's a Screen Cleaner)
Accomplished this morning: booked my flight to Detroit! =)

Next travel-related thing: start looking for flights to Burbank in June. (ouch! that's going to be expensive)

I think my fever's finally gone. YAY!! My voice is still pretty much shot, but one thing at a time, eh?
leighblack: (Kasey - The Sun Would Shine)
Annnnnnd...suddenly I'm going to Detroit in April! I miss my [livejournal.com profile] sammipunk something awful and was looking for an excuse to visit. So I'll be attending the My Chemical Romance show on April 19th. Gee, I should probably make sure I get a ticket, huh? That would probably be easier if I didn't have to work for nine hours on Sat, when they're supposed to go on sale at TM. Oh well. I have ways of making things work out.

leighblack: (Two Guys - Oh Noez!!1!)
This weekend was rather quiet, which was fine. Of course, I was still busy.

I went to see Waitress on both Saturday and Monday. I couldn't possibly be more infatuated with Nathan Fillion at this moment. If only I could figure out a way to trigger an "accidental" meeting while I'm out in Cali! I also watched another NF movie, White Noise 2: The Light. It wasn't as bad as it would seem to be. It was at least watchable. And they stuck in a Captain Tightpants line for no reason. =) But he had a serious lack of scenes without his shirt. Only one!

Actually, the big thing from that movie is that I figured out how to go from an .avi file to an actual playable DVD all by myself. I was pretty proud of me!

I worked on Fri, Sat & Sun and the less said about that the better. I'm worried that I'm reaching the Hallmark breaking point, because I'm finding it harder and harder to deal with crap from whiny customers. I even had to kick someone out of the store on Sat! Case in point: One of the little old ladies came up and asked if we had any Son & Daughter-in-Law 25th Anniversary cards. Honestly, what? Could you be a little more specific? Really, how many of those would we sell? So, no, we don't have them. How hard is it to write "To my Son and Daughter-in-Law" on a 25th anniv card? Or vice-versa? But you would have thought I kicked this old lady's puppy with how sad and dejected she looked when I said we didn't have that exact card. Some people just expect way too much. I'm glad we're going into our slow period because I think I need a break from this crap.

After my crappy day at work on Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] taylorea had asked if I'd drive with her to Andy's gig. Sure, no problem. I always enjoy some live music. She left out a few things. Like the fact that the bar was at the corner of No and Where. Somewhere between Hastings and Red Wing. In fact, we missed the turn off for the county road and ended up in Red Wing for a little while. She also failed to mention that this was a country gig. Or something. I still don't completely understand what was going on.

So, we finally get there. (There is the Cannon River Inn in Welch, if'n you need to know) And I am immediately amused by the fact that there is a change of clothing sitting on the ice machine in the front of the bar. In case you soil yourself? Or maybe somebody sleeps there and that's their closet? Not sure. Andy met us outside to say that he'd already played a set and now his friend Ramblin' Rod would be playing. Ramblin' Rod just got a karaoke machine and would be playing guitar and singing along to his karaoke tapes. Wait, what?? Oh, this sounds like a bad idea.

And it was.

Andy finally convined Rod to sing one of his own songs and blessedly the karaoke tapes were turned off for a song. But they came back. Bren was rather horrified by the whole thing. I was more annoyed. Rod took a break and Andy wanted to go up to do another set, but Rod wouldn't let him until after he played another set. *grrrrr* We finally went outside, since the music sounded much better through the wall. And it was nice out. At some point, one of the drunken folks came over and took the shirt from the pile of clothes on the ice machine. But left the pants. Odd. And someone drunkenly walked into the wall. Good times! Also, there was a crabby lady with a fanny pack. I'm always amused by fanny packs! Bren couldn't handle it anymore and we ended up leaving before Andy played again. He didn't seem too upset about it or anything.

ETA: [livejournal.com profile] taylorea helpfully pointed out that I forgot the best part. She & Andy were going to treat me to a drink since I had driven to No and Where. I requested a Jack & Coke, thinking that was an easy order for a little shanty bar like that. But they didn't have any Jack. Let me repeat that: NO JACK DANIELS. =/ They just had beer, wine coolers or soda. But, the bartender had a buddy who was going to be bringing up some whiskey for them later on. And sure enough, one of the local hicks did indeed bring in a half-empty bottle of some knock-off whiskey shortly thereafter. Ewwwww. I wisely decided to stick with my can of soda.

Monday was my fuck off day. My first day off in almost four weeks that did not also involve dog watching! I spent most of the day doing nothing more than watching TV. (Oh, Law & Order: CI marathon, how I adore you!) I also colored my hair black and burgundy. Hopefully the burgunday will take this time. Last time I tried it, my hair was still dealing with the bleach & Manic Panic and all the burgundy washed right out. I'm more hopeful about it now.

And that leads me right up to today. It doesn't suck, but I'd rather not be here. I'm just holding on to the fact that I only have 11 hours left of work until Wed the 6th. (well, 15 if you include my Hallmark shift tomorrow) And 48 hours from now I'll be in Denver on my layover to Burbank. SO EXCITED!!!!

I hardly have words to explain just how completely wonderful this weekend has been. I got to hang out with some of my favorite people, made some new friends and met some cool people and...oh yeah, saw two fucking awesome shows! I am more in love with Butch Walker right now than I ever thought I could possibly be. Tonight's show at the Fine Line was pretty much perfect. Except that I still haven't gotten to meet Butch! It's okay though. I'm over it. The adorable girls in Rocket made up for it because they were super fucking cool. Lauren was sad that it was my last night and they were trying to get us to drive to Appleton tomorrow.

This post probably makes no sense as I'm sure I'm just rambling. I'm completely exhausted from getting little sleep and being sick, but completely pumped up from the show. It's going to be hard to drag myself out of bed to drive up to St. Cloud tomorrow, but I want to see my brother so I'll do it. I feel bad for poor [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin who has to work in the morning!

I have tons and tons of photos and videos that I will work on posting asap! The video of "Best Thing" from tonight is fucking fantastic!
leighblack: (Chad - You Rock Hardcore!)
*waves hello*

We're here in Madison! How the hell did I do this road trip thing before without a laptop??

I TOTALLY just got dragged into the Faster Pussycat drama. Awesome! =/ Stupid Diva and his stupid request to "just post something" on the board.

But I did find out that it is not the real FP playing in Hollywood when I'm there. But I've been ordered to party with them at the Rainbow.
leighblack: (Butch - A Man and His Guitar)
Hi everyone! I'm back home from Detroit. That was seriously the easiest drive I've ever had through Illinois. I made it from Gary to Elgin in about an hour. Awesome!

Butch was fucking fantastic last night!! Even if he was sick. I was bummed that he didn't play "Born to Run" but hopefully he'll play it next weekend. And it kind of sucked that he wouldn't come off the bus to say hi to the less than 20 people standing around waiting for him in the freezing cold. But I understand. It just would have been nice of him to send someone off the bus to say he wasn't coming out, you know?

Anyhow, I have photos and video to share and a whole journal entry to write about my trip. I'll try to get it done tomorrow. I miss [livejournal.com profile] what_never_was already!

In conclusion, Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutch!
leighblack: (T-Rex - Road Trips Rule!)
*waves hello*

I'm here in [livejournal.com profile] what_never_was's living room! YAY!!

You know what makes road trips fun? Snow. =/ And people who can't fucking drive.

But it was a fine drive all and all. Two days 'til Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuutch!!!!!
leighblack: (The Office - Who's Laughing now?)
Okay, so tonight's episode of The Office wasn't the bestest evar or anything, but it was still pretty damn funny. Dwight is made of awesome. 100% awesome! And the ending! o_O

I'm pretty much packed for the weekend and ready to leave bright & early tomorrow morning. Can't wait! I have no idea when I'll be online again, but I'll be around somehow. I'm sure you'll be able to find me if you need to get a hold of me! =)

Have a great weekend, everyone!
leighblack: (Butch - Out of Tune)
Wow. It's quite miserable outside. I can handle the dusting of snow and the cold, but the wind is pretty brutal. The windchill is 3ยบ. Brrrrrrr...

I added a little more color to my hair last night just to even out the red and it looks pretty awesome now. I should get some interesting comments at Hallmark tonight.

OMG I leave for Detroit in two days!!!! I can't believe I'm excited to go to Detroit. =/ I was a little concerned about my cash flow and the price of gas, but it looks like I should be perfectly okay now. My iPod is crammed full of music and my list of things to pack is pretty much done, so I think I'm good.

I haven't coughed once yet this morning. Maybe my cold is finally done! Too bad my allergies are pretty harsh right now.
leighblack: (T-Rex - Road Trips Rule!)
A few weeks ago, Jaime ([livejournal.com profile] seimaisin) and I were looking up the date for the upcoming Gaelic Storm show at the Fine Line and noticed there was another Minnesota show on the schedule - in Cokato. Even though it was on a Sunday and over an hour away, we decided that we should probably go anyways, because who doesn't enjoy a Gaelic Storm show? )

Videos for your downloading pleasure:
Born to Be a Bachelor (featuring Crotch Pipe!)
Courtin' in the Kitchen
Johnny Tarr (the camera is quite jiggly during the beginning because I was laughing too hard to hold it steady)
Kiss Me I'm Irish (sorry Bella, the beginning is missing, but most of the song is here)

I'm going to try to get these up on YouTube either tonight or tomorrow. I don't have software to compress them down to size here at work.

I suppose I haven't posted much about what's actually going on with me lately. I'm still sick, although I think I've finally entered the realm of "I feel better." Although I felt much better yesterday than I do today. Sometimes it's hard to judge if it's my cold or my allergies. I am way overmedicating myself because of this. All I really want to do is be able to breathe! And get my voice back! It's been all out of whack for over two weeks now.

Other than that. things are okay I suppose. I'm adjusting much better to being at home than I have after previous rock-star-stalking road trips. "Chad" is not every other word out of my mouth. Although I'm kind of lonely. It's difficult to be out with friends every night and have people telling me how glad they are to see me and how much they're going to miss me and generally feel loved, and then come home and...well, no one really cares. If nothing else, my dog is at least happy that I'm home. This just makes me all that more excited for the Cathouse show in October.

Oh, and on that front, I DO have the money to go. I started vaguely looking at flight prices, and it's definitely within my budget. If you didn't see Riki's post on sludge, tickets for the show go on sale on Sept 1st. However, he's also having some special MySpace presale thing too. I recommend going to his myspace and subscribing to the blog to stay up to date with things if you think you might be going.

I don't think I mentioned it, but I recently got a new boss at work. This is actually good, because I like her a lot, and my old boss just wasn't working out. He really didn't give a shit about what I did and took no initiative to learn. K is much different though, and she's been at least trying to wrap her head around all the things that I do. And she's been trying to find other things to get me involved with so I might actually have some stuff to do. Because right now things are pretty dead. Today, for instance, I finished everything I had to work on about 1 1/2 hours after I got here. And that's with spending some of that time goofing off on the Internet. So, I'm learning a couple new systems and taking on some more things. K seems to think that a promotion will be in the works too, since my job description will now have more things added to it. That's cool. I like working for her.

THIS IS YOUR REMINDER!!! 12 of 12 is on Saturday! Please try to participate!
