Dec. 12th, 2010 08:31 pmhi there!
So you may have heard that we've had some weather around here this weekend. Either on my twitter or Facebook or on the news or whatever. We got about 18 inches of snow, making it the 5th largest snowstorm of all time here in the Cities. Or something like that. We already had like 10-12 inches on the ground, so there's a lot of fucking snow out there.
Knowing that it was going to be bad and the fact that they never, ever plow the lot at my apt building well or on time, I decided to stay at my parents house on Fri night since I had to work in the morning. (they live like a mile from my crap retail job) This worked out well. I brought laundry. I helped my mom decorate for Christmas. My dad cleaned off my car for me in the morning. Aces.
Work SUCKED. The storm got worse and we'd had 3 whole customers by the time our owners let us close at 1pm. I only made it out of the parking lot because one of the plow guys saw me trying to get traction and made a path for me. The short drive back to my parents was ridic and I knew I'd never make it all the way to my place, so I stayed there another night. My dad moved his POS Jeep so I could park in his car port. Finished Christmas decorating. Finished cross-stitching gifts for my Star Trek secret santa person. Stayed warm.
This morning was cold and sunny. My dad moved my car into the sun to warm it up and clean the snow off. I stayed through dinner and finally got back to my place about an hour ago. Which was hardly plowed. =( I barely made it up the hill into the lot, but Lil' Min is a champ and made it! And I managed to snag the one lone spot in the entire lot that was actually plowed out. Thankfully, my dad also gave me a shovel just in case I have to dig my way out tomorrow. The streets around are mostly okay, it's just this place that sucks. But there's a guy in a truck and one with a snowblower now trying to make a dent. Which is good because several cars were plowed in behind 3-4 foot high walls of snow.
Also, this happened this morning:
I realize you've probably seen it today, on the news or sports coverage, but it bears watching again. And again and again! The best part is the dude in the golf cart hightailing it the fuck out of there. Can we just burn the whole thing to the ground?
tl;dr version: I am safe and dry and happy. And now going to spend the rest of the evening reading Pinto fic like it's my job. =)

Sep. 23rd, 2010 08:51 pmDay 30 - Your favorite song at this time last year
Panic! at the Disco - 'New Perspective'
OMG, I love this song. I've never been a huge PATD fan or anything, but I certainly like them. However, something about this song just made me fall in love with it:
And it stayed my favorite song until the day Motion City Soundtrack released 'Disappear'. =)

And that's it! I made it to the end of the meme! =) I thought about finding another 30 Day meme to do, but I think I've decided to try posting actual content daily. We'll see how that goes!

Sep. 22nd, 2010 11:15 pmDay 29 - A song from your childhood
The Monkees - 'Every Step of the Way
In '86-'88, I was TOTALLY in love with The Monkees. They were replaying the show on Nickelodeon and I had a crazy crush on Davy Jones. And in 1987 they released a new album (Pool It!) with this song as the first single:
And I loved it. LOVED IT! It comes up on my iPod once in a while and I still singalong, even though it's really a terrible song. I can't help what I love!

Sep. 21st, 2010 09:51 pmDay 28 - A song that makes you feel guilty
Sarah McLachlan - 'Angel'
I really had no idea what to choose for this. Then I realized that this song was perfect:
Because every time that ASPCA commercial comes on, I feel incredibly guilty that I can't save all the animals. =(

Sep. 21st, 2010 12:28 amDay 27 - A song that you wish you could play
Melissa Etheridge & Bruce Springsteen - 'Thunder Road'
I was just about to go to bed when I realized I'd forgotten to do something. And here I am posting instead of sleeping. ;) So, 'Thunder Road' is a great song. One of the all-time greatest. But I fell in love with it from this version:
Melissa & Bruce doing a live acoustic version on MTV Unplugged. Absolute perfection! I listen to this all the time. I used to own this on a bootleg cassette I bought years and years ago that I actually wore the tape out on. So yeah, if I knew how to play guitar, this would be one of the songs I would need to know how to play.

Soooooooooo. I don't really play an instrument anymore. But I used to know how to play the flute and for reasons I can't even begin to explain, I taught myself how to play this song:
The 80s were a weird time.

Sep. 18th, 2010 11:15 amDay 25 - A song that makes you laugh
Southgang - 'Tainted Angel'
First off, I LOVE this song. I love this whole album! Since the first time I heard it and still adore it now. But this is kind of ridiculous:
Knowing Butch Walker now (well, not that I know him) and listening to this, it gives me a serious case of the giggles. Look at all the hair whipping and hip thrusting in this video! No wonder he pretty much refused to talk about his hair band days for years...

Doing this early today since I won't be home until late. Gotta get my party on! ;)

Pearl Jam - 'Release'
I don't really know how to answer this one. It's not something I think about. I'd rather people have a party to celebrate life than a funeral, you know? But this song seems fitting:
There's a lot of Pearl Jam on this list. Ten is obviously still one of my favorite albums ever.

Kasey Chambers - 'More Than Ordinary'
I don't even know what to say. You have let me down, internets! There are no videos with this song. Like, at all! So here is a download of the song.
It's one of my favorite songs in the world, but it's very bittersweet. I have a very sad, personal memory attached to the song and I replay that in my head when I listen to this. Whenever I'm feeling blue, this is definitely part of my playlist.

Sep. 11th, 2010 09:22 pmDay 19 - A song from your favorite album
Butch Walker - 'Closer to the Truth and Further From the Sky'
No question about it, this is definitely the only choice for this song:
Honestly, I never thought I'd find anything I loved more than Pearl Jam's Ten. When Sycamore Meadows first came out, I was a little disappointed with it since there were kind of a lot of quieter songs and I like it when Butch rocks. But after a few listens I realized I was totally wrong and over time it's become my all-time favorite album. And this song is probably my favorite on the album, but it's definitely my favorite to see live. In fact, it's probably my #1 favorite live song. That moment the band kicks in makes me jump up and down in ridiculous happiness and sing at the top of my lungs. So this is a live version of the song and one that I recorded myself, from the show at the Varsity last year. One of my favorite concerts EVER. =)

I was totally excited to hear a hair metal power ballad on the radio, you know? And then they kept playing it and my excited about it waned. And then they KEPT playing it. And that crappy dance remix came out. And then it was played more. And MORE. And yeah. I can't stand it. It's a pretty terrible song anyways.

Yeah. I had a hard time with this one. Like a REALLY hard time. I almost went with Kasey Chambers' 'Stronger'. Or with the Unknown Prophets' 'The Road Less Traveled' since I really am a Minnesota girl at heart. But this song won out in the end:
Like literally from the very first time I heard this, it's been *my* song. As in 'listen to this song and you can see inside my head.' So I guess this is the song for me!
