leighblack: (Pinto - Zach Reads Fic)

and heeeeere's the completely finished blanket! ALL DONE!! so happy about that. now I just need to box & wrap it for Sunday. I think I can handle that part.

since I'm done with this, I've been completely overdosing on reading fic this week. I think I deserve it. next week I plan on getting my iTunes whipped into shape. I do the most interesting things in the world, indeed.

speaking of interesting things, last Saturday we went to the Travie McCoy show, in which Black Cards was one of the opening bands. they happen to be Pete Wentz's new musical endeavor. kind of pop/dance/reggae. ngl, I kind of adore their music. and I had a good time dancing to their show! and then afterward, we hung out and got photos with Pete & Bebe.

clicky, clicky )

so, fun night! I definitely want to see them again.

since I have this new fancy camera now, I'm going to do Project 365 again starting tomorrow. I think I'm going to post the photos via tumblr. I don't really want to use flickr or Facebook, so I guess tumblr is my best option. friend me there if you haven't already? I'm shelikeshairbands. it will be weird to have my blog be something besides photos of Chris Pine.
leighblack: (Music - Don't Stop)
Yeah, it's after midnight so I didn't get a post in for today. But I was super busy! Today is exactly what I needed!

First up, [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I went over to Best Buy to watch Green River Ordinance do an acoustic set. Kelly, my friend from work, and her son joined us. The set was short, but totally fun! They told a lot of ridiculous stories and took questions from the audience. And we ended up talking to a lot of fans there, because that's kind of how I roll. The GRO guys were sweet and awesome as usual, delivering hugs and thanks. Jamey was also nice enough to put us on the guest list for the show tonight so we didn't have to worry about getting tickets. =)

Something you will find amusing: we were sitting on the floor during the set and my legs/feet promptly fell asleep. And when I tried to get up afterwards, I totally bit it and fell down. =/ It didn't help that it was my bum ankle. Joshua looked greatly concerned, but it was fine. It's certainly not the first time I've fallen over and won't be the last.

Okay, so then we went over to my sister's open house/graduation/birthday party. I hadn't seen their new house yet, so that was nice. And my family was getting along so that was good too. =) There was Lebanese food and I ate a lot of it.

We journeyed back over to Jaime's for a little while. Chowed some pizza and played a little Rock Band. We finally got around to buying the Family Force 5 song. I love them so much!

Then we headed over to the Fine Line for the show. GRO did a fantastic job and the crowd was totally into it! It's so weird to think about the time we saw them at the Hellhole with like 15 people. The Fine Line was packed and there was a lot of yelling and clapping and singing along. I'm so excited that they're getting such an awesome reception. =) Kris Allen was good too, even though I don't know much about him. He definitely needs some polish yet, but since this was his first real tour he gets some slack.

Kris was signing things after the show and we decided that we didn't want to be anywhere near that scene, so we hung outside with the mob around GRO. We made sure to thank Jamey for getting us in, of course, and got photos with everyone. I just can't stress how entirely nice and appreciative these guys are. They always remember us and treat us so well. =)

Here's a couple photos from today. behind the cut )The rest of the photos are up at Facebook, if you have me friended there.

And now, off to bed! Doctor Who watching in the morning and then work all day long. BLAH.
leighblack: (Capt Fine - Suddenly Shy)
- The clothing part of my CONvergence costume is almost complete. This makes me happy. I started experimenting with makeup tonight and it's...coming along. My accessories are really the last big thing.

- What are you doing on June 17th? You should be at Bowling for Boobs III! There's bowling and a silent auction and it's all for a good cause. Be prepared, I am definitely dragging some of you guys with me!

- holy cow do I love the new Grace Potter & The Nocturnals album!

- Green River Ordinance tomorrow! if you local types aren't doing anything tomorrow afternoon, you should come to their acoustic in-store at the Best Buy in Roseville at 2pm! Free music and nice rock boys. What could be better?

- Anyone up for a game of Fuck, Marry, Kill? I'm bored! Give me 3 people. Or characters. Whatever.
leighblack: (Default)
This is the first time we've seen the sun in five days. The weather was pretty much miserable for our cruise. And it's like 32 degrees here in Tampa right now. Brrrr. But we're still having the best time ever! And we won the Amazing Cozumel Race, even in the wind & rain!

More to come...later sometime. After much napping. But for now...

Things learned on Rock Boat X
- [livejournal.com profile] stardiver now knows what Tony Lucca looks like
- Don't schedule anything involving tender boats
- Barry likes herringbone
- The Green River Ordinance guys are even more adorable than we thought (and remembered me!)
- Goose knows how to sing Paula Abdul songs
- Drunk fucking whores in the room next to us really suck
- Don't give Michael Tolcher Jager before he needs to do something serious
- I saved the banana
- Ken Block makes the sexiest Stevie Nicks ever
- Scott from Wideawake sings 'Poker Face' better than the dude from You Me at Six
- 'Party in the USA' is a FUCKING HORRIBLE earworm (no thanks to GRO)
- Stephen Kellogg is a whore
- And I am able to move concerts! The power of The Legend continues!

It was an awesome time! Can't wait to do it again next year. More details and photos will get posted eventually.
leighblack: (Trek - For Science)
I have to leave for work in a few minutes, so this will be short.

Last night's Motion City Soundtrack show was fantastically awesome! Even with equipment failure and Justin forgetting the words to entire songs. Heh. The crowd was SUPER rowdy! It made for a lot of fun, although I was very glad that we got our usual spot along the railing above the pit. Because I had no desire to be in that mob. It's been a very long and stressful couple weeks and this was exactly what I needed!

And I am very glad I decided to change out of my skant dress. It would have been way too hot for the show.

Anyhow, photos from work yesterday! behind the cut )

And now off to a nine hour (GROAN) shift at Hallmark, in my other Star Trek uniform!
leighblack: (Hicks - Just a Ride)
A handwriting meme! From [livejournal.com profile] amy13

Rules:
1. Write your username.
2. Write your 2 favourite bands/groups of the moment.
3. Write something you love, aka lemme see your heart.
4. Write the name of your favourite person of all time.
5. Write the name of your recent favoured person.
6. Tag 6 people to do this meme. (And I never do this, but whatever. I'm leaving it in)

behind the cut )

I apologize for the blurriness of my crappy phone cam. And I couldn't pick like real people I actually know for 4 & 5 (because how do you really pick favorite friends??) so I picked my idol and the current celebrity crush. It made sense in my head. Also, my handwriting is HORRIBLE.

Empires were SO FANTASTIC last night! Their new song was super hawt! I hope they get the new album out soon. I'll write more about the show later. Maybe?

Back to work...
leighblack: (Trek - Drink It Up)
weekend wrap-up in bullet points:
- Sugarland/Billy Currington/Matt Nathanson concert in Ames on Thursday night was AWESOME!
- holy crap, I got to meet (AND TOUCH) Matty Nay!!
- epic Star Trek birthday party of epicness was FANTASTIC!!
- THANK YOU to everyone who came!!! You made it the best party ever!
- or maybe that was the booze =P
- photos will be forthcoming, I promise, along with an actual real recap
- I don't think there's any photos of my Starfleet dress where I don't have a drink spilled down my front. whoops.
- party cleanup SUCKS
- I now have SO MUCH alcohol sitting here

I kind of just want to collapse. Instead, I'm about to get ready to go out to dinner and then to the Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers/Carbon Leaf show. Standing all night does not really sound appealing, but I can't possibly miss this show. So I'll be there!

I may never get all caught up on LJ/twitter/Facebook, so let me know if anything important happened, okay?
leighblack: (Cobra - Fangs Up)
list of bands I saw )

You Me at Six were fantastic! I'm really excited that they'll be back for the AP Fall Ball. brokeNCYDE played 6 songs and I sadly knew every single one of them. They've changed up their stage show a little bit, but they're still terrible. Black Tide was totally a metal band from 1988. I really dug them! I skipped Innerpartysystem to stake out a spot at the barrier for Shooter Jennings and it was worth it. I've never been that close to him. He played 4 new songs and he's definitely heading to more of a rock sound. I approve! The Maine were even better than the last time we saw them and they played a cover of 'Pour Some Sugar on Me'. Which they somewhat knew the words to. It still rocked. Local band New Medicine was fantastic! I hope they blow up big when their album comes out this fall. Every Avenue continues to make me love them more and more. And I danced my ass off during Forever the Sickest Kids. I'm REALLY into their album lately and have been listening to it on repeat.

We worked our way into the crowd for several of the sets. Strange for us since we usually hang at the back. But it was fun to dance around with the kids. And we managed to avoid both All Time Low and 3OH!3. Unfortunately, we did hear some of Millionaires as we were leaving.

The kids and their awful fashion sense still frighten me a little bit. There was a boy wearing beads as a shirt. And I saw a lot of fanny packs. WUT?

I bought four CDs (strangely enough, all for bands we didn't see), one T-shirt (Shooter, of course) and a new pair of earbuds. My feet HURT and I got sunburned on my face and chest. And it was an awesome day! The best part is that Cobra Starship & The Audition is only three days away!!
leighblack: (Cobra - Gabe Loves NKOTB)
YES! The Audition will opening for Cobra Starship! This is kind of a dream show for me now.
leighblack: (Cobra - Gabe Throws the Metal Horns)
Okay, seriously. I don't even know how I'm going to make this post coherent all. (Jaime's post makes much more sense than mine is going to) Basilica Block Party was the most fun I've had since...well, LAST weekend. ;)

So first off, the weather was PERFECT. Absolutely gorgeous! Couldn't have asked for it to be more beautiful than it was.

[livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I met up with [livejournal.com profile] doll_revolution at BBP not too long after the gates opened. My whole plan was too get in front of the stage for Green River Ordinance and then stay up there for Matt Nathanson. There were a few people up there already but we managed to make it into the second row, right at the barrier. Perfect!

Last time we saw GRO it was on a cold February night and they played in front of about 12 people. Do you see this MF photo? Jamey Ice from GRO twittered it from onstage. It's not too hard to see Jaime, Holly and myself totally enjoying ourselves, right up front. Do you see all those people behind us? We had NO IDEA how many people were back there. It was crazy! And our adorable GRO boys were playing in front of them!

You may remember Jamey as the band boy who recognized me even though we'd never actually met? Oh yes, that's him. And he saw me pretty much right away when he walked on stage and said hi. ♥ Then later during the show, Josh (their singer) talked about how it was cold the last time they played here and I shouted 'we were there!' And someone from the other side of the stage (Geoff, I think?), which I could barely see, yelled back 'yeah, you were!' And then after Matty Nay was done, we wandered back to the merch tent and before we could even say anything, Josh saw us and gave Jaime and I each a big hug and said 'I can't believe you guys make it all the way up front!' We talked to them all for a while (except for Jamey, who was fangirling the Counting Crows on stage) and they are the nicest, most adorable guys and I love them a whole lot!

I was silly and obeyed the rule about not bringing a camera, so these are from my crappy phone )

Also, I totally broke the T-shirt rule and wore their shirt to the show. But I wanted to show my support for them so it was okay. They actually thanked me for wearing it. ;)

In closing, Green River Ordinance is AWESOME and they're going to get huge (they're going on tour with David Cook!) and you should totally buy their album because it's my favorite album of the year!!

Back to on stage, between GRO and Matty Nay, there was a competitive eating Jimmy Johns eating contest? Or something? I have no idea what was going on. It was disgusting to watch and then they were throwing food into the crowd and...yeah.

But then Matt came out and everything was right with the world. Especially since the first word out of his mouth was 'fuck!' Heh heh. Oh Matt! And he was really fantastic! I've never been that close for him and I really enjoyed it. He looked DAMN GOOD and his shirt kept riding up and exposing skin and then I couldn't keep my eyes off the giant bulge in his pants. Yeah, I went there. *ahem* He played all the songs I would ever want to hear, including 'Detroit Waves' and 'Laid.' And then he started to intro the last song and immediately Jaime and I started going nuts, because we knew it was going to be 'Don't Stop Believin''! (I think we scared the girls next to us) And really, there may not be a more perfect way to end a summer evening than to be having a giant Journey sing-a-long as the sun is going down. AMAZING.

Jaime & I left Holly up front, since we're not that into the Counting Crows and FOUGHT our way back through the crowd. Seriously, pushing and shoving and it was crazy. There were so many people there! Once we saw the size of the crowd, we realized just how very lucky we'd been to be able to be up front. Unfortunately, we never did find [livejournal.com profile] duckduck as she made her way forward into the crowd. =( But we did manage to find [livejournal.com profile] jmasterflash and her friend and we hung out with them, in between running over to stalk talk to the GRO boys and getting food. Holly eventually gave up on the crowd too and managed to find us and we spent the rest of the night hanging out in the back.

It was a fantastic night and I can't possibly imagine how it could have been any better! I'm so happy we went!!

Also, sorry for all the Twitter spam tonight. Whoops?
leighblack: (Karl Urban - How You Doin')
No time to write again. =( I had a FANTASTIC time at The Higher/The Audition show tonight! The Higher are so much better than they were the first time I saw them a couple years ago. And The Audition rocked as hard as they always do. I love those boys! I got some pics and video, but your guess is as good as mine when I might actually get them uploaded.

Off to bed now. Have another GQMF macro?

YAY! \o/

leighblack: (Kasey - The Sun Would Shine)
Torchwood is confirmed to air on BBC One sometime during the week of July 4-10!!! SO EXCITED!!! Only a couple weeks left to wait.

The concert last night was AMAZING! Justin Townes Earle was entirely entertaining. I dig his Buddy Holly-like schtick a lot. Kasey & Shane (and Kasey's dad Bill) were PERFECT and wonderful and I'm still totally in love with her. ♥ [livejournal.com profile] taylorea said she looked over at me a couple times and I was just 'gone'. Ha ha. Whatever. I adore Kasey. That's not a secret. Unfortunately, a VERY drunk annoying guy was sitting next to j and was trying very hard to ruin the show for the people around him, with his moaning (yes, MOANING) and singing. Blah. The Star Trib wrote some words about the show here, including the setlist.

I'm pretty much in love with [livejournal.com profile] inell. Last night's chapter of Two Men & a Motorbike was extremely satisfying. Especially since it was already waiting for me when I got home from the show. I have a sneaking suspicion I will be waiting up tonight until she posts tonight's chapter.
leighblack: (Trek - Don't You Ever Forget)
OMG. The Carbon Leaf/Alternate Routes show was completely AMAZING last night! I'm not a huge CL fan or anything and they totally blew me away. They played non-stop (except for a small encore break) for well over 2 hours. Almost unheard of nowdays. They sounded tight and everyone looked like they were having fun and it really didn't matter that it was after midnight before things ended. The Alternate Routes were fantastic too! The crowd seemed pretty into them. Nice to see them getting some exposure.

All in all, [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I had a great time! And we got to see [livejournal.com profile] planetgal471 and hubby and [livejournal.com profile] nxdrockerchick8's friends and the crowd wasn't as bad as I thought they'd be. It probably helped some that we decided to stand up at the front of the stage. All of the hipster douches were behind us so I couldn't really see them and wasn't as annoyed by them as I normally am.

Although, seriously now. Barry hears voices, am I right? Not like ones telling him to do violent things. Just voices in general.

I have some photos from the show, but your guess is as good as mine as to when I might be able to upload them. =(

The sucky part of the night is that I got home at 1am. I checked my email, read the next part of Two Men & a Motorbike and then was still hyped up so I read part of my book and didn't actually fall asleep until around 2am. My alarm goes off at 5:15. Ouch. I think I looked like death warmed over when [livejournal.com profile] wilowisp stopped by to chat this morning. I'm still pretty exhausted but I'm caffeinated enough to make it through the day. Who needs sleep?

GAH! The new Butch Walker video is out there and I can't see it! *stupid internet filter*

I really should probably stop adding Star Trek icons to my userpics someday. But today is not that day. Also, I should probably stop downloading terrible movies featuring Karl Urban or Chris Pine because the chances of my actually having the time to watch any of them are pretty nil.

also, if there ever comes a day when I'm no longer amused by 'I'm on a Boat' it'll be a sad day indeed
leighblack: (Trek - Bones/Kirk Ship)
- still sick, slept A LOT
- worked at Hallmark a lot, it sucked
- had a lovely gathering last night to celebrate [livejournal.com profile] stardiver's being home for the weekend
- slept in today
- saw Houston Calls tonight - they are a TOTALLY different band from the last time we saw them
- had A LOT of fun at the show!
- bought 2 more Houston Calls t-shirts
- bought Kirk & McCoy action figures at Target
- read A LOT of Kirk/McCoy porn

...and that's about it. Back to work tomorrow. =(
leighblack: (Cobra - Happy Gabe is Happy)
OMG YOU GUYS! So many many awesome things happened tonight!!! I will TRY to write up some kind of recap tomorrow.

But most of awesome of all, this happened:
Suarez and Gabe

♥ ♥ ♥

I'm exhausted and sore from dancing and smell revolting from sweating. It was a FANTASTIC time!
leighblack: (Rent Movie - Happiness)
Green River Ordinance will be opening for Matty Nay at Basilica Block Party!!!!!11!! That makes me SO HAPPY! (obvs) I love them so much! Except now that there's so many awesome artists on Sat night, there's probably going to be conflicts of who to watch. A fun problem to have.

My hair is so NOT red anymore. I like it.
leighblack: (FOB - BMW Does Not Have to Put Up w This)
I feel like I should probably write something about this weekend, huh? I have some actual work to do though so let's do this in some bullet points.

- [livejournal.com profile] taylorea and I had a little shindig on Sat night and it went very well, if I do say so myself. I think it was our best party ever! Lots of awesome people, good food, inappropriate conversation, a gigantic DDR setup and some conrhole. How could that go badly?? ;) We're already discussing our next party for sometime this summer.

- Gah. I totally forgot about Law & Order: CI again last night! Having it on Sunday night conflicts with my VH1 watching. I'll have to watch it tonight. Because I am super excited about Jeff Goldblum!

- Daisy of Love, eh? I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, but I will indeed be watching. I can't look away!

- Seriously, WERE We the Kings always listed for our Warped Tour date?? I just feel like this is brand new news to me. That makes me very happy though! My ticket came last week too so I'm ready! Oh wait, it's still like 3 months away...

- It's very suddenly spring around here. The grass is green and the trees are budding. It couldn't get here soon enough!

- This week is super busy for me, as usual. I'm super excited to see Star Trek on Wednesday. And we'll be going out on Thursday for Dining Out for Life. And then there's Wolverine this weekend!

How's things going for you guys?

!!!!!!!

leighblack: (Butch - Butch + Wine = OTP)
Ummmm. I kind of have no idea where to start this. YOU GUYS! I MET BUTCH FUCKING WALKER!!!

photographic evidence )

Soundcheck was fantastic. The show was AMAZING! My favorite Butch show ever! And it was at the Varsity, which really makes everything better. [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I camped out at the front of the stage, while [livejournal.com profile] carleton97, [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf and Andy elected to hang out at a table. There were so many amazing moments during the show. And then he finished off "Canyons" RIGHT in front of me. As in, I was staring at his knees.

seriously close )

I have about 6 gigs of photos and video to try to dig through, so I'm not really sure when I'll get it all posted. I'm going to start uploading to YouTube tomorrow. And I really will write up better concert reviews. Sometime.

I can't believe it's all over
leighblack: (Kasey - The Sun Would Shine)
Dearest [livejournal.com profile] duckduck,

I bet you've thought to yourself 'my lazy friend Leigh is never going to post those videos she took at the Kasey Chambers concert we went to back in September.' And I would tell you that you are wrong! Because I finally have them all uploaded! I know. I'm shocked too!

Here, on my YouTube channel!
There's five videos in all. I think two of them are still processing but should be available soon!

Love, me
leighblack: (Default)
I made this same post for 2008 and actually kept up with it, so I'll be doing it again for 2009. It's helped me keep track of what I've done over the year!
