leighblack: (Trek - For Science)
hi there!

So you may have heard that we've had some weather around here this weekend. Either on my twitter or Facebook or on the news or whatever. We got about 18 inches of snow, making it the 5th largest snowstorm of all time here in the Cities. Or something like that. We already had like 10-12 inches on the ground, so there's a lot of fucking snow out there.

Knowing that it was going to be bad and the fact that they never, ever plow the lot at my apt building well or on time, I decided to stay at my parents house on Fri night since I had to work in the morning. (they live like a mile from my crap retail job) This worked out well. I brought laundry. I helped my mom decorate for Christmas. My dad cleaned off my car for me in the morning. Aces.

Work SUCKED. The storm got worse and we'd had 3 whole customers by the time our owners let us close at 1pm. I only made it out of the parking lot because one of the plow guys saw me trying to get traction and made a path for me. The short drive back to my parents was ridic and I knew I'd never make it all the way to my place, so I stayed there another night. My dad moved his POS Jeep so I could park in his car port. Finished Christmas decorating. Finished cross-stitching gifts for my Star Trek secret santa person. Stayed warm.

This morning was cold and sunny. My dad moved my car into the sun to warm it up and clean the snow off. I stayed through dinner and finally got back to my place about an hour ago. Which was hardly plowed. =( I barely made it up the hill into the lot, but Lil' Min is a champ and made it! And I managed to snag the one lone spot in the entire lot that was actually plowed out. Thankfully, my dad also gave me a shovel just in case I have to dig my way out tomorrow. The streets around are mostly okay, it's just this place that sucks. But there's a guy in a truck and one with a snowblower now trying to make a dent. Which is good because several cars were plowed in behind 3-4 foot high walls of snow.

Also, this happened this morning:

I realize you've probably seen it today, on the news or sports coverage, but it bears watching again. And again and again! The best part is the dude in the golf cart hightailing it the fuck out of there. Can we just burn the whole thing to the ground?

tl;dr version: I am safe and dry and happy. And now going to spend the rest of the evening reading Pinto fic like it's my job. =)
leighblack: (Booze - Blue Martini)
I'm 100% sure it depends on where you are, but it's actually not that bad out there. The roads around here are plowed pretty cleanly and I made it to my parents and back without any issues. The snow left on roads has completely melted though and that should make for some interesting conditions once the temp drops. And the new snow that was supposed to start after sundown seems to be already starting to fall. I have caffeine and food and I'm planning on staying in for the rest of the day. Maybe watch some Six Feet Under.

Something super fantastic happened earlier today! I just can't really talk about it yet since it's not my news. *pouts* But it's pretty much the only thing I've been looking forward to for this Christmas and it's making me burst with happiness. =)

Merry Christmas y'all! Stay safe out there.
leighblack: (Cobra - Thumbs Up!)
Today I received in the mail: my John Barrowman autograph from [livejournal.com profile] praguematic, the hard copies of my TorchSong photos (minus my second Gareth photo, which I figured would come late) and my Deluxe Edition of the Cobra Starship album, including one of the limited edition covers (Ryland's!).

I still feel like crap and decided to ditch out on going to the Irish Fair. I spent most of the day in bed, either sleeping or reading Star Trek fic. Not very productive, but okay. I hate being sick.

Big storms again tonight. We haven't had much of this weather this summer and it's been very odd.
leighblack: (L&O - Buddy Cops)
Okay, [livejournal.com profile] wilowisp. I watched the first episode of Dollhouse finally. And...I'm not sure about it yet. I didn't hate it or anything, but I'm not sold on it yet either. I'll probably watch episode 2 once ER is over and maybe that will help.

The most important part is: HOW DID I NOT KNOW THAT REED DIAMOND IS ON THIS SHOW?? Mikey! I haven't seen him in anything lately and I've missed him. When he came on screen, I might have given a little squeal. He must not be a permanent cast member though since he's listed in the 'guest starring' section of the credits.

I just went outside to see what it was like out there. It's a mess. There was a 10 inch snowdrift behind my car. I decided to see if I could move my car to a better spot so I wouldn't have any issues getting out in the morning, but all the other spots suck too. But I did manage to get out so I at least won't get stuck. And the good thing about the brutal wind is that it's blowing all of the snow off my car. I shouldn't have too much to clean off my car in the morning.

Yes, I think ahead like that. It's how my brain works.

The more I ponder Law & Order: UK, the more I think I may have a new OTP. ♥
leighblack: (Firefly - Surrounded By Idiots)
I left work about two hours early. And it still took me 2 hours and 15 mins to get home. Not the worst drive home ever, but close. Yeech. Then I almost didn't make it up the driveway into my apartment complex because it hasn't been plowed yet. I actually had to reverse back down the drive, into the street, into the drive for the community college across the street and gun it forward. Success!

Don't go out if you don't have to, folks.

Plus, I was getting like a Twitter text every minute or so and it was so annoying I actually shut my phone off. Some of you are chatty! (although I'm very guilty about being pretty twitter-chatty today too)

In other news, I love my hair SO MUCH. I think it's my favorite color ever. I kept leaning forward at my desk so it would fall in my face and I could look at it. ♥

And now for a nice evening of not leaving the house. =)
leighblack: (DW - Jack is Not Amused)
I'm starving. There is no food here. It is -14 outside. Why can't I just walk from my bedroom to a full breakfast buffet anymore??

leighblack: (DW - Ianto Has a Big Gun)
You guys. YOU GUYS. Torchwood/Burn Notice crossover fic. YES.

Also? [livejournal.com profile] ninja_teaboy got opened up this weekend to combat all the fics where Ianto is a big woobie wuss. KickAss!Ianto is my favorite ever and this community has been desperately needed.

And this concludes your fannish flailing for this morning.

The less said about the weather and my suck ass drive into work, the better.

But this guy sure ain't lettin' the snow stop him from enjoying his day.
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
So yeah, hi. I'm up at the cabin until Saturday. [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin was here for several days, but she left this evening. So now it's just me. Well, and my mom and Earl, who are over at the house. Across the street. Sort of.

For some perspective, here's a photo )

Yes, the house and the cabin are only about...what? A hundred feet apart? If that? Yet we each stay in our respective areas and it's probably better that way. And we're more likely to call each other than to actually walk over to the other place. It works for us, so whatever.

ANYHOW. I was sitting here watching TV tonight (yes, certainly an exciting way to spend a birthday) and Earl let himself in through the doggie door. He jumped up on the couch with me and implored me to scratch his chin, just like he belonged here. I figured my mom was visiting the neighbors and he was looking for her and just got confused, so I carried him over to the house to wait for her. Nope, she was sitting there watching TV. Neither of us have any idea why he would wander over to the cabin by himself. Weird little dog.

For real though, just being up here makes me miss Riley more than ever. I expect to see him trot over to sit by my chair while we're sitting by the fire. =(

Also, part of the fun of this state? It was nearly 90 degrees yesterday. Today? It barely made it into the 70s. brrrrrr...

But holy crap am I happy that I got the hell out of town. What the fuck is going on in the city that I love?? Sadly, that's not even the worst of it.
leighblack: (Sven - Waving on St. Patty's Day)
A) I did not have to stay late at Hallmark today. Hooray!
B) I managed to finish all the displays and crap for tomorrow, so I also do not have to go in early in the morning. Double hooray!
C) Severe weather = lots of Sven on my TV!
D) Except that this storm killed two of the trees up at the cabin a couple hours ago. Boo!
F) dramallama is not my favorite activity
G) mmmmm...whiskey! crap, I'm outta Jack. Goldschlager it is then!
leighblack: (Cobra - Gabe Loves NKOTB)
This is something I can live with: 10-day weather for Bubank
Sunny and high 70s/low 80s every day I'm there. Can't wait! (note to self: bring sunblock!)

Now if I can just make it through this last hour of work...
leighblack: (Sven - Sven & Abby)
It is fucking snowing out there. SNOWING. This is the most ridiculous thing ever. GO AWAY WINTER!

The only good thing is that work will probably be dead today because the old biddies won't go out in this weather. Maybe I can work more on the story I've been writing forever.
leighblack: (GDL - Tongue Porn)
So Snowpocalypse 7.0 was pretty much a bust, at least here in the Cities. But I had to run out and grab something from my car last night. It was snowing, sleeting, raining and there was thunder & lightning. All at the same time. What the frak is going on??

THE OFFICE IS BACK! =) I laughed, I cringed. It was good!

Oh man. They announced yesterday that Gareth David-Lloyd is going to be at Dragon*Con. I am absolutely NOT pondering this. No way. Just in the same way that I am NOT pondering a trip to Toronto while John Barrowman will be there filming How to Solve a Problem Like Maria and recording his next album. And possibly shooting a movie.

This time next week I'll be in Detroit! It's sad how very excited I am to go to fucking Detroit. =)
leighblack: (Wild - State of Hockey)
- The Minnesota Wild won their division for the first time ever!! This is awesome and I am SUPER exicted!!

- I got to see Henry for the first time in 2 1/2 months, since I am finally not sick and he is settling in at home. It was also quite nice to visit with [livejournal.com profile] taylorea for a while.

- My 1969 CD showed up! So did my Amazon UK order, with all three new Torchwood books and my cherished John Barrowman CD. ♥

- The new Madonna video is super hot, even if it makes zero sense. While I was hitting the iTunes store to buy the video, I decided to check for the sexay Matt Nathanson video for "Come on Get Higher." They finally had it, so I now own a copy for myself. Yum!

- I think I now have everything together for our Torchwood party tomorrow. If I ever doubted that I was crazy, these party preparations have confirmed it.

- I spent my entire drive home from work with the window rolled down and Cobra Starship cranked on the radio while singing at the top of my lungs. Man, I love spring!

Is it really going to fucking snow again on Sunday? *sigh*
leighblack: (JB - Thinking...)
Sometimes you just have to love this crazy state. Yesterday is was the nicest day of the year. 52 degrees, sunny, gorgeous. Today? 7-8 inches of heavy snow are expected. Sven apologized many many times during the news broadcast yesterday. Certainly, I'm not looking forward to the snow, but I am amused by how ridiculous it all is. What else can I do?

I was pretty productive this weekend! I got almost all my stuff done that needed to be done. Which is good, because this is my schedule for the next week:
Today - work/Hotel Cafe concert (yay! Cary Brothers!)
Tues - work/Hallmark
Wed - work/Hallmark
Thurs - work/get supplies for Torchwood party
Fri - work/Torchwood final episode party!!
Sat - Hallmark/pow wow with [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin/Emerson Hart concert/Doctor Who premiere!
Sun - Hallmark

The weekend after that, I'll be in Mason City on Sat and then back here for The Audition concert on Sun. And the weekend after that I'll be in Detroit! Who needs free time?

Also, apparently it's just going to be normal that every couple Sunday nights I get less than an hour of sleep. Because I think I finally fell asleep around 4:30am. My alarm goes off at 5:15am. *groans*

I listened to some music this week! Here's my last.fm stats, in which I was perhaps angry while I was at work )

My official books read total for the first quarter of the year is 25! Go me!
leighblack: (TW - I Maded You a Koffee)
Three straight days of snow after it's a officially Spring is a little much, don't you think? I agree. WTF Mother Nature?

I'm glad Easter is here. I know the Hallmark customers are just being nice but I cringe every time someone told me to have a good Easter. I'd always give a "you too" back but I really just want to say, "yeah, I'm not Christian."

To do today:
- Laundry
- Theme Mix post
- regular post
- dinner with the fam
- Project 365 photos?
leighblack: (T-Rex - WHAT THE HELL.)
there are snowflakes coming down

leighblack: (Wild - Boogaard Throws a Punch)
I have today off, which is kind of a lifesaver. Work has been driving me nuts. We can totally tell that one of our projects is going to completely crash & burn, and there's not much we can do about it. =/ It's my first client too, so that's not good.

Anyhow, my list of things to do today:
- Laundry
- Go to Borders
- Go to Wal-Mart
- Lunch with my mom
- Talk to my brother in Korea (I missed him - maybe we'll talk when I get home tonight)
- Make a new post in the seekrit community
- Go see Matty Nay tonight and laugh my ass off

I had to work last night so I missed the hockey game. =/ But we won! And Boogaard already got in a huge fight. Nice! (yes, I already made an icon of it - shut up)

I can't even begin to go into how many ways The Office was MADE OF WIN last night. SO WONDERFUL! But Dwangela! *heart breaks*

Dear humidity,

Look, we had a nice summer fling. Sure you were a little too clingy and smothering sometimes. It wasn't awful though. But now summer is over. It's time for you to give it up.

No love, me
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
We had some weather going on here tonight. (actually, there are still tornado watches out right now - which is weird this late at night) This is always okay with me because that means extra Sven on the TV. Suddenly, he announced that there was an unconfirmed funnel cloud in my very suburb, located near the intersection of two highways that absolutely do not meet at any point. In fact, Hwy 13 is not even in Inver Grove. Oh Sven...*shakes head*

It didn't really matter though, since I wasn't at home. My dad called me at work today (which was strange in itself) and asked me if I'd feed Riley for him. My mom and Earl have been up at the cabin for several weeks now and she's basically been without a car. Poor Early got pancreatitus this week and my dad had to run up to Brainerd to pick them up and bring them home so Earl could go to his real Vet. Not that the Brainerd Vet isn't good, but it's not his real Vet. So, me and Riley were hanging out for a while. I was going to leave and then the storm started and he hates them so I stayed with him until it ended. He wouldn't leave my side and in fact kept snuggling up closer and closer to me. Awwww...

So, I finally left and then spent the rest of the night watching Butch and Stephen Kellogg concert DVDs with [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and [livejournal.com profile] stardiver. A wonderful evening!

OMG! I almost forgot! I went back to Target and they finally had The Office sticky notes and the memo cubes in! I kind of did the happy dance there in the dollar spot. So I bought even more stuff that I absolutely do not need. =)

And now I should definitely be in bed. But Simon Pegg is on Conan, so I'm in front of the TV.
leighblack: (Drive - Bitch Plz)
You know what's fun? Being woken up at 3am, AGAIN, by a terrible storm and losing power, AGAIN, and having to get ready for work by flashlight. AGAIN. Anytime you want to quit this, Mother Nature, that would be okay. Really. I would love to have a night I can sleep all the way through.

I am wearing my Team Franken shirt today. We're supposed to go on some team building thing (to a bar) today, so I wore it for that. But I'm hoping that I can maybe ditch out since I want to go sit with Riley. I actually might try to just get the whole afternoon off. I'll see what my boss says when he gets in.

Ohhhhhhh, today hurts. I think I'm going to give in and go buy a Red Bull.
leighblack: (Firefly - Jayne Hat)
I kind of adore Unshelved.

My Forecastfox toolbar keeps telling me that it's partly sunny, but all I've seen today is a constant blanket of dreary gray clouds. Boo. I did see the sun for about 30 seconds yesterday, which is more of a glimpse than I'd gotten in the past three days put together. Blah.

ETA: Wow. They weren't kidding when they said the new Rilo Kiley CD is a total departure from their normal stuff. =/ It's not bad, just weird.
