leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
Yesterday, my brother was at my parents house when I got there and I asked him if he was going to come over today to see the new dog. He said he wasn't sure and that he'd heard she was a midget Riley. I told that to my sister, she loved it and the name's kind of stuck.

So, introducing Midge! (uhh, we think - it might change yet, I guess) ETA: Already changed to Annie. We'll see if that sticks.

more adorableness behind the cut! )

So yeah, she's pretty adorable. And so tiny for a Scottie! She's a little hard of hearing and has cataracts, but otherwise she's in good health. She LOVES to eat. In fact, we were already calling her Midge the Mooch because she wouldn't stop begging around the table and following people around the kitchen. I was the one giving her treats because I was trying to get her to learn how to use the doggie door, so she stuck close to me a lot of the night and all through dinner.

She & Earl mostly ignored each other. I think they'll be okay. But she's tiny enough to fit under the bed and that's always been only Earl's territory. I don't think he'll be okay with sharing with her. We'll see.

The first family also got a new dog this weekend! The only thing I ever liked about Dubya was his awesome dog Barney. But this one is pretty cute too.

In other news!
We had a little meeting of the minds last night and came up with a plan for CONvergence. We're going out dressed up as a group for the Saturday night parties and everyone is welcome to join us! We'll be doing the Zombie Pirate Pub Crawl Cabana Shamble. Brilliant, eh? I can't wait to start getting my costume together! Aaarrrrrrrrrrbrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaains! By a unanimous vote of arrrrrrrrrrrrs, I'll be heading up this yet-nameless ship of Zombie Pirates as Captain Legend, I suppose. It's going to be so much fun!

Henry joined us last night since he'll also be attending CONvergence for the first time this year. He took a real shining to [livejournal.com profile] wilowisp. He still mostly just stares at me. In fact, he would look around the group and be giving everyone a huge smile and then completely drop it he when he looked my way. =/ I swear, I've never pinched him or anything.

Oh Bret...really? That girl?? :sigh:
leighblack: (Cobra - Gabe Loves NKOTB)
Wow. I think the internet may explode on Friday, when Randall from xkcd will be doing a guest comic for Dinosaur Comics.

This weekend was kind of exhausting. I had to work ten hours at Hallmark on Saturday for the Ornament Debut. I could tell the exact point where my patience for people wore off and unfortunately I still had to be at work for about 3 hours after that. =/ And two of the 4 customers I can't stand graced us with their presence. It was a looooong day. I was supposed to hang out at the House O' Cats for a movie night and instead I pretty much collapsed into a heap when I got home and watched Torchwood.

I dragged myself to the Sprawl of America to meet [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and [livejournal.com profile] sister_wolf on Sunday. My original plan had been to find a top to finish my Halloween costume, but since I managed to finally find the one I really wanted on eBay in the right size I really didn't need to buy anything. Which is good. I mostly stuck to a plan of not being distracted by shiny things and spending money I didn't need to spend.

But I did solve the issue of what to bring to have signed at the Cobra Starship show. I bought this super awesome T-shirt. Honestly, I saw it and I just started laughing. It's perfect!

Also, apparently we time warped back to 1988 while we were in the Mall, because there was a whole hell of a lot of day-glo, sparkles and other 80s fashion affronteries. They had a freaking NKOTB shirt for sale at Torrid! Honestly, who decided that the 80s should come back and can all of us who lived through them the first time kick that person in the kneecaps?

And then last night was the premiere of Rock of Love Charm School. It didn't disappoint! There was a catfight in the first 15 minutes! Oh girls, you're so classy.
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Rock Hands)

Hello Train Wreck City. I love you already!!

errr...Charm School: Rock of Love, starting Oct 12th (ack! that's still a month away!!) in case you didn't know.
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Rock Hands)
Guess what's coming back to VH1??

Motherfucking Rock of Love! Except that this time it will be on a TOUR BUS instead of in a mansion. Which will hopefully make up for how damn boring ROL2 was. Are they shooting this trash on the Poison tour right now?!?

I predicted this shit ages ago!
The hard-partying gals of Rock of Love 1 and 2 are in major need of a manners lesson, and who better to tutor them in lady skills than Metal mama Sharon Osbourne? Vh1’s hit show is set to return this Fall with fourteen new pupils all vying to become the teacher’s pet. Osbourne will host and guide Bret’s ladies through their journey into the world of all things prim and proper. In the end, only one contestant will be left standing with $100,000 in her pocket. Saaphyri was last season’s most-improved - it’s anyone’s guess as to who will nab the prize this year, but we predict a lot of catfights along the way! Stay tuned to the VH1 Blog for the inside scoop about the newest season of Charm School!
This is going to be WAY better than that I Love Money show.

More TV news:
The MediaGuardian website has announced that Steven Moffat is to succeed Russell T Davies as the chief writer and executive producer of Doctor Who.

The article states that Moffat will replace Davies in 2009, taking over as "showrunner" for the fifth series in 2010. Moffat has been responsible for several episodes of the revived Doctor Who to date, including the BAFTA Award-winning "Blink" and the fortmcoming two-parter "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead".

Davies is quoted as saying: "It's been a delight and an honour working with Steven, and I can't wait to see where his extraordinary imagination takes the Doctor. Best of all, I get to be a viewer again, watching on a Saturday night!"

UPDATE: The BBC Press Office has now issued an official press release confirming the story. This includes a comment from Moffat himself:

"My entire career has been a Secret Plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back 'cos the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven. Anyway, I'm glad the BBC has finally seen the light, and it's a huge honour to be following Russell into the best - and the toughest - job in television. I say toughest 'cos Russell's at my window right now, pointing and laughing."

I'm okay with this, indeed.
leighblack: (DW - Armed & Dangerous)
I'm still alive. Well, my brain might argue with that one today. But I made it through the weekend and it was great! Highlights include:

- Making fun of pretty much every single thing in Mason City, Iowa
- Prime n' Wine/Vince Gill birthday weekend, let's book it!
- I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] urbanbluesky finally!
- I'm a big enough dork that I downloaded Doctor Who using the hotel's internet, converted it to mp4 and then watched it on my iPod while lying in bed
- Was that a great episode or what?
- We cheated on the Denny's in Clear Lake

Last night was the The Audition/Hit the Lights/Every Avenue/The Morning Light/Kiros show. We've seen The Audition before but didn't know what to expect from the other bands. We were pleasantly surprised!

Kiros - Okay, we missed their set. But the band members were walking around all night dressed in SKIN TIGHT jeans in colors like pink and purple. Interesting.

The Morning Light - Good, not great. A little too mellow for this tour. I was confused why they have a lead singer when their keyboardist did most of the singing and had a much better voice.

Every Avenue - I like their album, but it's pretty pop-based. They aren't anything like that live. They totally rocked! Jaime & I both were like "Oh yeaaaaah..." =) I'd definitely see them again.

Hit the Lights - They rocked too, but I wasn't into them as much. Their songs weren't as good as Every Avenue's. But the kids were sure into them. There were several mosh pits created during their set.

The Audition - I seriously love this band. They are the step-child of Skid Row, for sure. Something like that anyways. They're fun and the crowd was pretty wild. Good times!

I got home too late to catch the Rock of Love finale, but I did catch part of the replay. Wow. It's too bad this season was so boring. It sounds like there's a good cat fight on the reunion show though.

I have a million things to do this week and no time to do them. Awesome. Tomorrow night is the Sara Bareilles show, which I'm looking forward to. I'm not looking forward to the fucking pseudo-hipsters though. Give me a show with the kiddies any day. At least they actually enjoy themselves. And I leave for Detroit on Thursday! YAY!

Hockey playoffs tonight! Hopefully I can stay awake long enough to watch the game. This is questionable because I'm fairly exhausted.

Can Monday be over yet??
leighblack: (Rock of Love - 80's Whore Hair)
So I've kind of been in a quandry about what to wear to the Rock of Love with Bret Michaels New Year's Eve bash thing that I'm going to. Should I dress up since it's NYE? Or not really since it's Bret Michaels? I haven't actually dressed up in ages and don't really have much to wear. I got a new top today that's not exactly sexy, but it does have cleavage and sparkly silver stars. I think I should be okay with it. And it'll go with either jeans or a skirt. I just need to decide what I'm going to go with. Decisions, decisions...
leighblack: (DW - Emo!Doctor)
Hai u guyz! I already have the new Doctor Who theme set as the ringtone for my phone. Iz nerd.

Also, I went to Borders today during their buy 3 for 2 DVD sale and DID NOT buy one DVD. Not one! I did however buy yummy Ghiardelli peppermint bark at half-price, because how could I not? And even better, I went to Wal-Mart to buy only FOUR things and I did indeed buy ONLY those four things. Wow! I'm amazed at myself.

Not much else going on. Just trying to get all the mucus in the world to drain out of my head. *cough*

ETA: ALSO? "Bret Michaels, Rock of Love, New Years Eve Party at the Myth just got hotter. Come take the chill off this new year's eve with Bret Michaels and two of Rock of Love's hottest ladies, Heather and Lacey!" YES!! It is now my life's quest to get a photo with Heather's hair.
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Rock Hands)
oh my... )

Only a couple more weeks to wait!
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Rock Hands)
Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] jmasterflash, I have been alerted to the fact that Bret Michaels will be at Myth for New Year's Eve! And since they're billing it as VH1's Rock of Love New Years Eve, perhaps they will be filming for season 2? Maybe? I have NO idea why he'd be here for NYE though. Who the hell comes here in December?

In any case, [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I are planning to go. Unless tickets sell out while I'm at work tomorrow. I kind of doubt that happening though. ETA: And now [livejournal.com profile] urbanbluesky is joining us! This is going to rock!!

Is it 3pm yet? I need to get the hell out of here. 612 Party tonight! Be there or be considered un-Minnesotan!

The star of Rock of Love 2 will be...

Bret Michaels!

This is completely acceptable.

Whatsa goin' on?

Riki Rachtman is the host for the Rock of Love reunion special. I had no idea! This makes it 100% more awesome. Or 100% more trashy. Whatever. I've never been able to shake my crush on Riki. Also, it's on an hour earlier than the ROL normal time, which is great. I'll be able to watch both the reunion and Desperate Housewives without any issues. Yay!

I can't believe it's over. Oh Bret Michaels...how I'm going to miss your wise & witty observations about skanky chicks.

But I'm going to miss Heather's hair most of all!
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Rock Hands)

Bret Michaels is on Conan right now and it's the GREATEST THING EVAR. How did I not know about this ahead of time???
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Brandi "Yeeech!")
My brain is playing that God awful Fergie song on repeat. "and I'm gonna miss you like a child misses their blanket..." MAKE IT STOP!!! I'm now regretting that I made that my ringtone as a joke.

*switches ringtone back to Doctor Who theme*

I used a different hair color than I usually use because it was cheap and I'm broke. And my hair still smells. This is after I washed it last night, used a deep conditioner overnight, washed my hair again this morning and used my pretty smelling conditioner from Bath & Body Works. Ugh. I'm sitting here with a cloud of smelly hair dye surrounding my head. =/ But my hair looks nice and the one section of hair that has ultra-dry ends seems to be much better. So I guess I'll deal with my hair reeking.

Last night I realized that there is soon to be a horrible tragedy in my life. The Rock of Love final episode and the Desperate Housewives premiere are going to be on the SAME NIGHT at the SAME TIME. o_O And when VH1 has a big final episode like that, they don't show it in the morning like they normally show the other episodes. WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?? Poor Nathan Fillion. He's obviously going to be recorded for later viewing, because OHMYGOD I HAVE TO SEE the Rock of Love ending as soon as it's on. But I feel kind of wrong in picking Bret over Nathan.

Listening to Matt Wertz right after Lewis Black is kind of jarring.
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Heather's Amazing Hair)
I'm kind of exhausted. But still wired. Thanks to everyone who showed up for my birthday party! I hope everyone had a nice time. I have enough leftover food for days. That's quite all right. And I got lots of Office stuff! My cube is going to be totally pimped out.

I'm very upset that I missed the Britney train wreck at the VMAs. Must look for a torrent tomorrow. Oh look! Dlisted has a clip of it already.

Also, Rock of Love was kind of phenomenal today. I desperately need an icon of Big John carrying Lacey down the hallway. Heather's hair was a big disappointment though.

Sleepy time now.
leighblack: (ILNY - Crazy Eyes)
OH YES!! They're casting for Flavor of Love 3! Also, rumors abound about a Charm School with the Rock of Love girls. Yes, please! I figured that would happen.

I kind of want to go track down Anderson Cooper. That's very very wrong of me. I should probably turn off CNN.

I totally know that I'm going to forget to bring something up north with me. I already feel like there's something I'm forgetting to pack. Something important. =/ It's not like I can't run to the store for things in Brainerd.

We still haven't heard anything from my brother, but that's not surprising. Hopefully he'll email tomorrow. My mom said she's going to pay for all of us to have Skype so we can keep in touch easier.

leighblack: (Firefly - Cortical Electrodes)
I have finally given in and I'm going to the doctor today to have my wrist looked at. Usually I can deal with the pain in my wrist, but it's been really bad for the last couple weeks. Like going from a pain factor of an occasional 2 to a nearly constant 6. It's bad enough that I'm worried there's something else wrong. Taking 4 Advil every fours hours and wearing my brace at night hasn't really been helping and that's kind of bad. And I'm stuck hugging my arm to my chest to help keep my wrist immobilzed. So yes, I'm going to the doctor. But that doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Unless I get some nice painkillers.

This weekend was quite lovely. Well, except for working at Hallmark both days. Since I have my new external hard drive, I've been downloading music like whoa and added around another 1,000 songs to my iTunes over the past three days. =/ I don't know how this happens.

Sat night was [livejournal.com profile] duckduck's birthday celebration. There was good food, protein cake, dripping and burning shuttlecock, some very inappropriate conversation and lots of wonderful people. It was lovely! I made sure to take some photos with people since I don't seem to have a lot of photos with my "home" friends. I'm going to get them printed off so that I can add them to all the photos of my "away" friends on my desk.

Oh, I know it was mentioned that folks would like to view Done the Impossible. I would love to do a group viewing but I can't really have people over to my place. So if anyone would like to volunteer their location, I would be happy to bring the movie! I have the next two Sundays off, if that works at all.

Both Rock of Love and Scott Baio is 45...and Single were great last night. Adding Hogan Knows Best into the mix next week may kill me with awesomeness. And then Man Band starts up in like three weeks. VH1 does indeed own my soul.

I don't know why, but I thought this week was going to be quiet. Until I looked at the calendar and realized that Poison/RATT is Wed night, Friday is my brother's going away party and both my aunt and [livejournal.com profile] stardiver will be in town this weekend. Happily though, I'm off from both jobs Thurs-Sun!
leighblack: (POTC - Rock On!)
YES! Now there is a video for the Rock of Love theme song. They say that Bret edited it together himself. I'm guessing this is how all Poison videos look in his mind.

Can't wait!!
leighblack: (Two Guys - Squee)
The first look at Rock of Love with Bret Michaels!

Oh man! I seriously can't wait for this. One more month to go!

It's even more awesome since Scott Baio is 45...and Single will be on at the same time. VH1, could I possibly love you any more?!?
