leighblack: (DW - Christmas Tiem Nao!)
It only took me 55 minutes to get to work! I'd say that's a pretty big accomplishment. Thankfully, there were no accidents on my side of the road. Yay! It's good when we all work together. Except you, jackass in the SUV who decided it would be awesome to tail me. DIAF.

Being at work after two days off kinda sucks the big one.
leighblack: (Two Guys - This is SO great!)
I had to work this morning. Which wasn't as bad as you'd think. Hallmark doesn't really have any big specials for the weekend. And all I really had to do was take down the Thanksgiving stuff and put out the rest of the Christmas stuff. It only took about four hours and then I was free for the rest of the day.

I decided to run to Best buy to see if they had the re-released boys Like Girls CD. Since it was about 1pm when I got there, it was busy but not swamped. I walked in, grabbed a couple CDs, paid and got out in under ten minutes. Not too bad. Then I went to Wal-Mart. I went to get conditioner, allergy meds and goop for my hair. And I ended up spending $102. =/ But I needed a new pair of jeans. And a hockey jersey. And three DVDs. Seriously, I have no will power.

So I was sitting here watching the Law & Order marathon and it was nagging & nagging me that I should go back to Best Buy. I finally gave in and did, where I bought the first two seasons of The Wire on DVD. But they were 50% off! That's a damn good deal. I'm just not going to allow myself to watch them until I've gotten through Series 3 of Doctor Who. Because that's a TV priority right now.
leighblack: (The Office - Best Frienemies)
Seriously, I suck at this journal thing lately. Work is eating my soul! I don't have time for anything else. Today was awful and tomorrow will be awful and then maybe it'll be better for a couple days. We'll see.

But then the day got better as [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin and I went to see Ben Lee, Cary Brothers and the Kahn Brothers. It was a great show! I'm kind of in love with Cary Brothers again. And with the Varsity Lounge. And with having a show that ends before 8:30 so I'm home by 9pm. Because I'm old.
leighblack: (2008 - Obama Pointing)
I normally have a lot of Hallmark rage, but I have extra amounts this week. Besides having to work during the Open House last weekend and dealing with the old ladies and their 8 million coupons. I'm stuck working all day again this Saturday. Barack Obama's campaign is having a party on Saturday as they open their Minnesota office. And Obama himself will be in Des Moines for a rally. And then Al Franken is having a rally at Neighborhood House on Sat to celebrate Veteran's Day. I'd love to go to any of these events. Instead I'll be couped up with the geriatric crowd. *sigh* However, some of you folks might be interested and able to go.

I'll also apparently be dog sitting this weekend. Which kind of sucks since it means I'll need to be in bed by 10:30 since that's their normal bed time and I can't break the system. At least my parents have their wireless internet setup now so I can just bring my laptop to bed.

It's taken me over an hour just to write these two paragraphs. And the scary thing is that this isn't the really really busy time yet. I don't even want to know what things will be like in a month. =/

leighblack: (Wild - Boogaard Throws a Punch)
At this very moment, I am supposed to be at the Josh Ritter show with Mo. Instead I ditched out because I am too tired and cranky and busy. You don't need to tell me what a loser I am. I already know. =/

My Hallmark manager called me today and begged me to take a shift tomorrow night since one of the girls is sick with mono. That will be my fifth day scheduled for the week, but I agreed to work. With the intentions of taking all the money from my extra shifts and buying myself a Derek Boogaard jersey. Because I deserve it, dammit! Then I looked in my account and noticed that I already have more cash than I thought I had. I could go buy my jersey right now! But I think I will wait until I get paid next week and then buy both my jersey and my new iPod. It'll be a day to circle on the calendar! Of course, that doesn't mean I can't stop by the Hockey Lodge on Friday and check the new jerseys out. ;)

Thanks to MetroBlogging Twin Cities (which I don't really recommend since they're a bunch of bitter twats, but I still can't seem to stop reading), I found out today about the blog We have Mixed Feelings About Sven Sundgaard. It's not very obsessive for a fan blog though. But now there's also Sven Sundgaard's Penis! (errr, NSFW) It's pretty damned funny! Yes, kids. The local weather guy has a fandom that is blogging as his penis. Oh, internet tubes. How you always amuse me!
leighblack: (Butch - Butch Crotch)
in which I prepared for the Matty Nay show )

I kind of feel like I'm in Bizarro World at work today. First, I got an email from someone at UnitedHeathcare - a MAJOR health plan in this country - that's partly written in chat speak. I don't have any understanding on how this is acceptable in a professional organization. And then someone from our Louisville office sent out a couple emails that were completely rude and condescending and when someone emailed her back to clarify what had been done wrong, she just sent back an even ruder email instead of giving any kind of help. I don't think she realizes just how many people those emails were sent out to. I don't think this is going to end well for her.

Stephen Kellogg just sent out an email to say that they're playing in the Midwest this week before continuing on their national headlining tour. We're not part of a national tour? Is the Midwest suddenly its own country? *confused*

leighblack: (Shooter - Sexy in Red)
Ohhhhhh, today hurts.

I got about three hours of sleep last night. I was at work by 7am and busted my ass to get the store ready for the Ornament Debut. It looked nice though. In fact, our district manager came in and complimented me on how it looked and my manager bought me lunch to say thanks.

But I've had two Diet Cokes and a Sobe Adrenaline Rush and a short nap and I'm still TIRED. Plus, it doesn't help that it's 88 degrees out (seriously, WTF Mother Nature??) and I kind of just want to retreat into a cocoon and enjoy the air conditioning. Instead, sexy country boys await and [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin will be here in 15 minutes for our trip to Clear Lake to see Shooter Jennings. I'll have enough energy to get really excited pretty soon. I think.

How the hell was I able to do 9 concerts in a row 4 years ago? =/
leighblack: (Wild - Boogaard Throws a Punch)
I have today off, which is kind of a lifesaver. Work has been driving me nuts. We can totally tell that one of our projects is going to completely crash & burn, and there's not much we can do about it. =/ It's my first client too, so that's not good.

Anyhow, my list of things to do today:
- Laundry
- Go to Borders
- Go to Wal-Mart
- Lunch with my mom
- Talk to my brother in Korea (I missed him - maybe we'll talk when I get home tonight)
- Make a new post in the seekrit community
- Go see Matty Nay tonight and laugh my ass off

I had to work last night so I missed the hockey game. =/ But we won! And Boogaard already got in a huge fight. Nice! (yes, I already made an icon of it - shut up)

I can't even begin to go into how many ways The Office was MADE OF WIN last night. SO WONDERFUL! But Dwangela! *heart breaks*

Dear humidity,

Look, we had a nice summer fling. Sure you were a little too clingy and smothering sometimes. It wasn't awful though. But now summer is over. It's time for you to give it up.

No love, me
leighblack: (TW - Gwen Said Tool)
How did I not notice this before? One of my YouTube videos is posted on The Fuchsia Band's MySpace. That's kind of cool. I like finding my stuff in random places.

I was hunting through the piles of clothing on my bedroom floor for a particular sweater this morning. All I could hear in my head was that damn "If you feel chilly, here take my sweater" song from the Old Navy commercial. And now it's been on repeat in my brain all day. DO NOT WANT.

Guys, I TURNED OFF the TV for a while last night. I also did the same on Monday night. I'm really trying to reach my goal of reading 75 books this year, and have realized that I'll need to read at least 2 books a week for the rest of the year to do it. This will not happen if I watch Law & Order all night every night. I'm doing okay so far. I finished two books I had been reading at the same time on Monday and I'm already halfway through another book. I can normally get 150-200 pages read while I'm at Hallmark, but I've been busy working on stuff lately. It's cutting into my reading time! Stupid work.

I've been to 22 concerts so far this year. Not too bad, I guess. I only went to 21 concerts total in '06. This is what my calendar looks like for the rest of the year, so far:
10/05/07 - Matt Nathanson, Cary Brothers & Kate Voegele at the Fine Line
10/06/07 - Shooter Jennings & Jason Brown in Clear Lake Iowa
10/11/07 - Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers & Tyrone Wells at the Varsity Lounge
10/17/07 - Josh Ritter & Eric Bachmann at The Cedar
10/26/07 - Shooter Jennings & Eddie Spaghetti at The Cabooze
11/03/07 - L.A. Guns in the middle of nowhere in western Minnesota
11/11/07 - Dropkick Murphys at Myth (I suppose we should organize some sort of ticket buying, huh?)
11/16/07 - Boys Like Girls, All Time Low, The Audition & Valencia at Northrop Auditorium (IF THE TICKETS EVAR GO ON SALE!)
11/27/21 - Fall Out Boy, Plain White T's, Gym Class Heroes & Cute is What We Aim For in Cedar Rapids Iowa
11/24/07 - Motion City Soundtrack, Mae, Anberlin & Metro Station at Myth

*sigh* TWO trips to Iowa. What's wrong with me?
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
Ow. I obviously slept weird last night and pinched something in my neck. Again. I can only turn my head to my shoulder, and even that hurts. Looking behind me is definitely out. No money for a massage this week though. Any volunteers to give me one? ;)

This week's theme over in the Seekrit Music community is "Music We Grew Up With." I downloaded a bunch of stuff I haven't listened to in years so I can post it. Stuff I only have on vinyl or maybe cassette. It's terrible that I can listen to it and still remember all the words. Also, looking at the list of stuff I'm going to post makes it apparent that there is something mentally wrong with me. Seriously, it's all over the place. You'll see when I start posting it later this week.

This weekend was pretty boring. I had to work at Hallmark all weekend. Boo. And I had to help my mom set up the new ornament display. Ugh. I finally grabbed the book from her and started doing it myself since I was tired of her bitching. It didn't help that I was crampy and tired and cranky. But it got done and actually looks kind of cute. I also had to check in all the new ornament stock and pull all the orders for customers. No one else at the store is organized enough to be able to do it. Including our manager. =/

Also, listen. If you want to stand there and open all of the sound cards, whatever. Have fun. But for God's sake, don't come up to the counter and open them directly in my face and go on and on about how great that song is. Yes, I've heard it before. Yes, I've seen the card before. Can you just shut it? Please?

Also also, I will never ever get the women who carry around those fucking suitcases and then have to lug them onto the counter and dig through them for 5 minutes and take all kinds of junk out just to find their credit card, all the while going on about how they hate that purse because it has too many pockets or they can't find anything or needs to be cleaned out. No one is forcing you to carry that thing around. Clean it out, decide what you really need and carry a smaller purse. Really, it's possible. Sometimes I even go out with only what's in my pockets.

Also also also? Our store is next to a Curves. Can I please put out a plea to the Curves women? If you want to shop at our store after your workout, that's fine. But for the love of God, go out to your car first and put your workout stuff in there before coming into the store. Because carrying your smelly shoes around our store? Kind of disgusting. Putting your smelly shoes on our counter when you're checking out? Really disgusting. Setting your DIRTY SOCKS on the counter? Completely unacceptable. And this has happened more than once.

So, other than getting Hallmark rage, I also hung out with my family this weekend. I stopped by on Friday to see how Earl was doing and he was still kind of bad. He was shaking and didn't want to be touched. But he was better on Saturday and let me scratch him under the chin for a little while. He even came out from under the bed to see me. Riley is also doing much better. He's back to ignoring me at will. Stubborn dog.

I spent an infuriating amount of time trying to get my parent's cable modem to work with a wireless router. Comcast gave them some new modem and it works like shit. I never did get it to work with the router. But I did finally get the modem to recognize my mom's laptop when we had it connected by wire, so we called DJ. It was 10:30am there and he was just getting up. Unfortunately, his webcam was broken so I didn't get to see him, but I did talk to him for a while. It's some sort of Thanksgiving-type holiday in Korea this week, so he was taking a vacation to some tropical island with some of the other teachers at his school. He's going to learn how to surf! Sounds like he's having a great time. He's definitely not home sick.

Other than that, I watched a lot of TV and futzed around on the computer. Kind of a typical weekend.
leighblack: (2007 Emmys - For the Win!)
I should probably write about this weekend, huh? We went to Ye Olde Malle of the Renaissance (aka the Minnesota Renaissance Festival) for [livejournal.com profile] seimaisin's early birthday outing. There were nine of us and no one got lost, no one lost anything important like wallets or cell phones, and we all had fun! Pretty good, I'd say! I spent more than I'd planned, but two of the bigger purchases were gifts. Yes, for other people. Not gifts for me. I got a totally yummy body butter in apricot freesia that makes me want to lick my skin when I'm wearing it. I also got some delish sugar scrub in Almond Kiss that I kind of want to eat out of the tub. And my day wouldn't have been complete without a "Dragon: The Other White Meat" T-shirt. I didn't get the bat wings that I kind of wanted because they were sold out. That was probably a sign that I wasn't destined to own them.

I also got this TERRIFIC shake on seasoning from Garlic Festival called Lemon Garli Garni. It's essentially lemon with garlic powder. They had it mixed with olive oil with bread for dipping. SO GOOD! I got some awesome sourbread to do the same and I also cooked some chicken in it. Oh man. I totally woke up craving it yesterday morning. I have a feeling I'll be ordering some more!

Other than that, I tried to spend some time relaxing. I haven't had any weekend time to myself in weeks, so it was nice to have all of Sunday free. I got up early to watch Rock of Love (I can't believe it's almost over!) and then spent much of the day being lazy. I uploaded a bunch of music for posts during the week. I went to the grocery store. I sat on my ass in my scottie dog jammies. It was a good day.

This week is not quite as crazy as the last couple weeks have been. This is good because I'm suffering from a severe lack of sleep. Also, work is getting kind of crazy. It's going to be a long, looooooong open enrollment. My first client is okay, but the second one is not really cooperative. Which makes it a little hard to get their stuff set up.

Speaking of work. There's been something wrong with the pipes in the women's bathroom for two days now and that side of the floor kind of smells like urine. NOT APPETIZING.
leighblack: (Rock of Love - Heather is Cynical)
My *happy dance* moment of the day: Pre-ordering Shooter Jennings' new CD The Wolf! Along with a vinyl copy too! It comes out on Oct 23rd, which is three days before we're seeing him here in Mpls. I'm very excited! You too can pre-order a copy right here.

I will hopefully have my new work laptop tomorrow. CubeMate in the Closet got his today and he's been showing off how fast he can run things now. Jerk. =( Oh yeah?!? Well, now people are going to expect you to do work while I'll still have the excuse of having a shitty computer. ("Yeah, I would, but my laptop's frozen again" gets said a lot) I have a bunch of extra programs that need to get loaded though and the IT dude didn't quite have mine ready yet.

Tonight is the Jon McLaughlin/Sara Bareilles and someone else show. I'm kind of too exhausted to go to a show, but I'll be there anyways. At least the Varsity has plenty of tables.

My Cube looks SO Office-tastic now!
leighblack: (Nathan - Shit)
Crap. I think I'm getting a cold. Granted, I usually get horribly sick at least once every summer and I haven't had so much as a small cough this summer, so I've been lucky so far. That still doesn't mean I'm happy about this.

Listening to Steve Earle right after Fall Out Boy is kind of a jarring difference.

There's probably only 20% of our employees here today and pretty much every one has given up on any resemblance of work appropriate clothing. Myself included. I still can't believe someone at our Philly office scheduled a VERY IMPORTANT conference call at 11am today. Who the hell wants to be in a meeting where they have to pay attention on the day before a holiday weekend? I sure don't. But I'll be there anyways.

Note to self: Don't forget that you want to hit the bazaar at the Fair this weekend because you need to look for a new purse. Also, you need to go to the good Hallmark store and Claire's after work today.
leighblack: (Drive - Bitch Plz)
You know what's fun? Being woken up at 3am, AGAIN, by a terrible storm and losing power, AGAIN, and having to get ready for work by flashlight. AGAIN. Anytime you want to quit this, Mother Nature, that would be okay. Really. I would love to have a night I can sleep all the way through.

I am wearing my Team Franken shirt today. We're supposed to go on some team building thing (to a bar) today, so I wore it for that. But I'm hoping that I can maybe ditch out since I want to go sit with Riley. I actually might try to just get the whole afternoon off. I'll see what my boss says when he gets in.

Ohhhhhhh, today hurts. I think I'm going to give in and go buy a Red Bull.
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
My quandry on which TV show to watch next has been answered since I got the first 6 episodes of The Young Ones today. DO WANT.

It's kind of difficult to get 8 different people to the State Fair from several different places, but it can be done. I think everyone is accounted for now for tonight. I am very excited to 1) buy an "Absoloutely Sventastic" shirt and 2) have an apple cider float. Oh and see Weird Al, of course! Since we're not going to have a lot of time tonight, looks like [livejournal.com profile] seimisin and I will be heading back to the Fair on both Saturday and Sunday. Wheeee!

I really want to like The Alternate Routes CD, but I'm not really feeling it. It's a little, err, boring. I guess. Maybe just a little too calm. I like my alt-country to have some bounce to it at least some of the time.

I pretty much despise everyone in my office today. That's not likely to change at any time this week.

I really miss my dog since he's been at the cabin with my mom all month. But he came home yesterday! I can't wait to go see him tomorrow. He'll probably just look at me like "what?" and go back to taking a nap.
leighblack: (Firefly - Reading is Fun)
Do you work at or have you ever worked at a bookstore? This is totally for you! )

WHY IS IT ONLY WEDNESDAY? This week needs to go much faster!
leighblack: (Firefly - No Power in the 'Verse)
I've had a terrible time sleeping through the night for the past week or so. I keep having weird dreams that wake me up and I spend a lot of the night tossing and turning. Last night's dream had something to do with birds. Sat night's dream was pretty involved, with some people trying to break into Hallmark to steal things and money. They got away with it once but came back while I was working. I tried to block them from getting into the store and when that failed, I snuck out. But I couldn't get my cell phone, the store phone or the phone at a neighboring store to dial 911 or the local police number. It was weird. I was blaming the weird dreams on taking Tylenol PM, but I haven't taken any for a few nights.

Can we be over some of the Harry Potter hype now? The one thing that really riled me up is stories of people in stores getting harassed because they flipped the book open to the back while in the store. Uhh, I think they have the right to do that, last time I checked. I'm totally a person who does that, because I like to see the page count and look at the author page and notes. I know plenty of people who like to read the last page of a book before starting the book. If I'd been in a store looking at the back of HP7 and someone had yelled at me about only reading it from the front, they would have gotten a 700+ page book to the head. Because I totally went to the end of the book first when I was skimming through the pirated copy I downloaded.

Other than that, having 4 days off from work makes Monday more all that more crappy. I got assigned to a client I know nothing about while I was gone and then invited to an all-day call in meeting today. Yeah, I don't think so. I have enough to work to keep me occupied for a couple more hours yet from missing two days of work. Also, if I tell you that I have nothing to do with that system or the department that does the admin for it, don't keep asking me questions about it. My answer is still going to be "Sorry, I have no idea. I don't have anything to do with that."

I'll try to write up a recap of my weekend (with photos!) tonight. Maybe.

leighblack: (Firefly - Cortical Electrodes)
I have finally given in and I'm going to the doctor today to have my wrist looked at. Usually I can deal with the pain in my wrist, but it's been really bad for the last couple weeks. Like going from a pain factor of an occasional 2 to a nearly constant 6. It's bad enough that I'm worried there's something else wrong. Taking 4 Advil every fours hours and wearing my brace at night hasn't really been helping and that's kind of bad. And I'm stuck hugging my arm to my chest to help keep my wrist immobilzed. So yes, I'm going to the doctor. But that doesn't mean I'm happy about it. Unless I get some nice painkillers.

This weekend was quite lovely. Well, except for working at Hallmark both days. Since I have my new external hard drive, I've been downloading music like whoa and added around another 1,000 songs to my iTunes over the past three days. =/ I don't know how this happens.

Sat night was [livejournal.com profile] duckduck's birthday celebration. There was good food, protein cake, dripping and burning shuttlecock, some very inappropriate conversation and lots of wonderful people. It was lovely! I made sure to take some photos with people since I don't seem to have a lot of photos with my "home" friends. I'm going to get them printed off so that I can add them to all the photos of my "away" friends on my desk.

Oh, I know it was mentioned that folks would like to view Done the Impossible. I would love to do a group viewing but I can't really have people over to my place. So if anyone would like to volunteer their location, I would be happy to bring the movie! I have the next two Sundays off, if that works at all.

Both Rock of Love and Scott Baio is 45...and Single were great last night. Adding Hogan Knows Best into the mix next week may kill me with awesomeness. And then Man Band starts up in like three weeks. VH1 does indeed own my soul.

I don't know why, but I thought this week was going to be quiet. Until I looked at the calendar and realized that Poison/RATT is Wed night, Friday is my brother's going away party and both my aunt and [livejournal.com profile] stardiver will be in town this weekend. Happily though, I'm off from both jobs Thurs-Sun!
leighblack: (Wedding Wars - All Smiles)
Okay. Please tell me I'm not the only one who suddenly realizes that they're watching something for the sole reason of finding the good iconning parts. =/

Sleeeeeeep now, I do believe. I have to be up at some unbelievable time in the morning so I can be at Hallmark super early for the ornament premiere. Yes, ornaments already. *sigh*
leighblack: (Kasey - The Sun Would Shine)
Wow. I was just at Chipotle picking up dinner and they had Kasey Chambers' "Wayward Angel" playing. I honestly stood agape for a moment. I've never just happened to hear Kasey while I've been out and about before.

I don't know how I didn't know this before today, but Wedding Wars will be available on DVD on Tuesday. Yes, it was hokey and dorky. But Simon Tam shacking up with Uncle Jesse? Yes please!

I had a customer rant I was going to write, but it's not worth the effort. Just don't be an asshole to the people trying to help you, okay? It's not that hard to figure out. And for crying out loud! SHOWER. Please.
