Torchwood: Children of Earth
Jul. 9th, 2009 06:21 pmSo. It was true all along. The foreshadowing was there for a reason. And loyal, brave, beautiful Ianto Jones is now dead.
I've known about it for a few hours and it really affected me at work. I felt like I was in a fog all afternoon. Actually watching it on the screen was almost anti-climatic. Although...Yes, I cried.
I haven't been so affected by a fandom in a long time. And this is why. I'm mourning the death of a fictional character. Gods...
At least the scene was poignant and lovely. And really, the episode was really good. Creepy and intense. But I may never be able to watch it again.
In closing, I'm going to be over here reading Star Trek porn for the rest of the night. Oh, and working on my P365 photos because I'm way behind again.

Except to make fans hate everything, maybe. I just... Yeah, why is a good question for it.

Date: 2009-07-10 01:14 am (UTC)I think it would have been better development for the characters, especially Jack, to have Ianto live and see them navigate a relationship than to just kill Ianto like everyone else Jack has ever loved, but alas. What do I know?
I have a feeling this is meant to "shake things up", but just too far.

Date: 2009-07-10 12:24 am (UTC)and I really don't know where they would go for a season 4 after this. I imagine they'll pick up the new girl PA if she doesn't die, and keep Rhys? This plus the amount of time between seasons is the beginning of the end for me. I just need to find something else to latch onto (cause I'm always obsessive about *something*, it just can't be TW anymore)

Date: 2009-07-10 01:19 am (UTC)I don't know. I imagine RTD has some ideas about what he wants. I just don't know that the fans will stick around without Ianto and with such a HUGE length of time between seasons.

Date: 2009-07-10 01:40 am (UTC)In my opinion, after this, they should stick to this type of mini-series event. I'm not sure how well it'll hold up to new characters on a weekly basis. Then again, going weekly would help rebuild the fan base because there's a lot of new fans this week they could start again with.

Date: 2009-07-10 01:30 am (UTC)It's like they say in emergency rooms with hypothermia victims or folks who have drowned in freezing cold water. You're not dead until you are WARM and dead. I ain't buying this NOPE, won't/can't believe they would be THAT cruel to us.
They brought Suzie back, they brought Jack back after DAYS, and they brought Owen back, it's scifi, you ain't dead until you are..... well i dunno and dead. *fingers crossed*
HEY, leave me with my delusions won't you! It's all I've got left and I dare to dream!

Date: 2009-07-10 01:56 am (UTC)Cuz once it's burst I have to start plotting the death of a few TW writers and that is just SOOOOO time consuming!

Date: 2009-07-11 02:58 am (UTC)(ST avoided this because Kirk's a giant manwhore. SO any pairing can be canon. Jack is Kirk with LESS inhibitions, and the fandom closes up like a republican anus. WTF?)
