So, who do you use for internet access? My Earthlink/Qwest DSL is shit and when my modem broke AGAIN last night and their customer service refused to help me reset set it and claimed it was a problem with the phone line even though I told them about a hundred times that it's NOT THE LINE IT'S THE MODEM JUST LIKE IT IS EVERY TIME I CALL I decided that I'm just getting a new internet service. Because that is the stupidest fucking thing I've heard. Especially when they wanted to charge me for a new modem.

So who do you have? Are you happy with it? My choices are pretty limited, especially since I am dead set against getting another DSL. Which pretty much leaves me with the evils of Comcast. My parents have Comcast so I know all about their slow times. But seriously? My DSL stops working EVERY SINGLE NIGHT from about 6-9pm. Just stops. No internet connection at all. So sometimes slow Comcast internet can't be any worse than that.

Comcast is evil. Eeeeeevil. I just switched over to Qwest (the non-Earthlink kind, dunno if that matters) and it should be getting switched on next week. In the meantime, my Comcast connection drops every half hour or so, and it's raping my wallet. I'm sooooo done with that nonsense.

Well, Earthink is just the ISP but the DSL line is through Qwest. So even if switched to a different ISP, I'd still have the same DSL line. Nothing would really change. Our apartment office has Comcast cable internet and it doesn't seem to go out too much. I think it's partly due to the lines in your area, you know? Plus, once I get rid of my phone line and Earthlink, the cable internet is actually cheaper.

I have nothing to offer in the way of advice being worse than a slowski with my wood burning dial-up, but I am curious too.

We have thought of Quest more than Comcast because I think those who don't have T-lines here in Gomorrah, probably have Comcast.

I don't know what I can tell you. The Qwest DSL was fine when it worked, but not having internet for three or four hours a night is ridiculous. I'll take some slow service over no service. Plus, I really live in the middle of nowhere, people-wise. The cable line won't be as busy as it is over in Gomorrah.

It would be nice if there were better choices than just those two, but most people that I talk with about the issue say one or the other.

Hey, is this the Sunday for lunch at your church?

Yeah, I know. We're just not a big enough area, I guess.

Nope, it's the 29th. I have your tickets ar my house.

We have Comcast, and it works well enough, I suppose. I still mourn the loss of Time Warner, with whom we never had any problems. But, Comcast hasn't actually gone out on us lately, which is an improvement over last year. So, maybe they're getting better?

At this point, I'll take service that works well enough. I think I'm lucky in that my 'Burb isn't very big so there won't be zillions of people on the line.

Do you guys have it hooked up to a wireless router? Do you think I'm smart enough to figure out how to do that? The cable outlet is on the other side of the room from my desk, so I'm probably going to move it to wireless.

We do have it on a router - I can't say that it didn't cause some swearing, but the two of us did get it set up without any professional help. :) You should be able to do it! I'll even volunteer to help, if necessary, though I can't guarantee any actual memory. ;)

Yeah, well I'll see how it goes, I guess. The directions look deceptively easy.

I never really had a problem with Comcast except the excessive charges. Chris and I use WOW! (wideopenwest) I have no idea if you'd even have that option though. Comcast has actually managed to legally block them out of certain areas. Which is total bullshit.

Nope, we don't have that here. It's pretty much Comcast, Qwest DSL using a variety of different ISPs or satellite.
