Jan. 8th, 2004 02:59 pmMy last day at work was Tuesday, as I took the rest of last week off to spend packing & moving. Unfortunately, I immediately reverted to my natural state and started staying in bed until the afternoon and staying up until 4 or 5am. I can’t help it! I’m just a natural night person.
So, Wednesday (New Year’s Eve) I was in bed until a little before 1pm. I got up and wandered down to pick up the keys to my new apartment. I went over the “I want blinds put up” (cause there’s ugly ass curtains up right now) argument again with my uncle. Yeah, yeah, they’ll get up right away. Sure, they will. It’s now 8 days later and I still have curtains. I went over and checked out my new place again, to make a better note of how much space I had and which walls had baseboard heaters along the bottom, since that would dictate where the furniture would go. In fact, I ended up measuring all of the walls and my furniture while the rest of the world was out drinking for NYE. I also spent some of the night spackling the nail holes in my old place. Nothing says Happy New Year’s like a big tub of spackle.
I woke up on New Year’s Day sometime before noon when my aunt called me, looking for DayQuil. (She lives downstairs from me) I finally got up and called my parents, who had agreed to help me move some things over to the new place. We worked off and on for over three hours, moving most of the bookcases, books, CDS and movies. Yeah, it pretty much sucked. Books are damn ass heavy!! My mom & I made sure to take plenty of breaks to watch “Pirates of the Caribbean” which I had playing on my new DVD player. We did get a lot of stuff moved, which was good. I managed to hurt my back and my knee, which was not so good.
I went over to my parent’s house for my brother’s farewell dinner that night. He left to spend three weeks in Egypt the next day. It’s such a cool thing for him! I’m very jealous!
I made myself get up around 11am on Friday, despite staying up until about 5am again. It started raining, so I didn’t move anything to the new apartment. I spent the day packing and organizing instead. I also ran to the store to stock up on water, pop and lunch supplies for Saturday. I had to work at the bookstore that night, which was a nice break. Once I got home, I finished packing things like my computer, the entertainment center, my clothes and everything else that I didn’t immediately need.
Despite being up until 5am yet again, I dragged myself out of bed at 8am on Saturday, the big move day. I started moving all the stuff from the kitchen while I waited for my motley crew of movers to start trickling in. We had my dad, my aunt,
On Sunday, I pulled myself out of bed around 1pm and went over to clean the old apartment. It took about three hours to clean the whole place. I was too tired to move all the cleaning supplies and stuff out of there, so I left it for the time being. My uncle doesn’t really care. I decided I wanted to relax, so I vegged out and watched Spiderman. Or rather, slept through Spiderman. Once I woke up, I got my second wind and started unpacking my books. This is a major undertaking, as I’m trying to make sure that my Books spreadsheet is updated at the same time. So I open a box, check the spreadsheet and then throw them onto the proper shelf. Once they’re all unpacked, then I’ll go back and alphabetize the bookcases. I also restacked all of the boxes that were shoved into the extra bedroom so there was actually some room to move around in there. I made myself got to bed at 1am since I knew I had to get up at 5:30am for work. It didn’t help though because I was too used to staying up late. I think I got about an hour of sleep.
Monday and Tuesday were rough. I was cranky, tired, sore and got stuck with a crappy ass project at work which was so NOT something in my job description. I was actually happy to be at the bookstore at night to get away from the madness. On Monday, I received both my Oklahoma DVD (starring Hugh Jackman!) and three seasons worth of Homicide: Life on the Street on DVD. Yay! I immediately popped in Oklahoma and was assaulted by annoying show tunes. But Hugh looks adorable, so that’s all that matters. Both nights, I watched a little bit of the DVD and unpacked a few boxes of books before going to sleep.
On Wednesday, I finished the damn project! Whoo-hoo!! I did the happy dance at my desk and then split from work. I ran to the store to buy stuff for dinner, talked to my uncle for a while and then worked on improving my apartment. I set out a bunch of the candles and knick-knacks that I had never bothered to put out in my old place. I set the table and then started to make my Lime Garlic Chicken, as
Dinner tasted great and we settled in to watch What About Bob. Everyone was a little sleepy, so we decided to call it a night once the movie was over. I popped in Oklahoma before they left so they could have the horror that is “Oh What a Beautiful Morning” inflicted upon them too. Suddenly, everyone perked up and got very interested in what was on the TV. Specifically, Hugh Jackman in leather chaps. More specifically, Hugh Jackman’s crotch perfectly framed by the leather chaps. ;) And then even better, he turned around and there was his perfect ass. And there we were, four grown women salivating in front of the TV. After promising to let people borrow the DVD, I pushed everyone out of my apartment and unpacked some more books before crashing.
And that’s the story of my very boring week!
