All right. I have given in.

I AM WATCHING TORCHWOOD

And perhaps I will be downloading Doctor Who once Torchwood is finished d/l'ing. We'll see. This might be too much geek for me for one day.

You sound like me giving in and watching Grey's Anatomy. Of course this is because Audra's in the spin-off, so I feel I must watch that, and therefore I feel I must be aware of who's who and what's what.

I'm taking a break for Cartoon Network's original Scooby Doo marathon though!

Welcome to the Whoniverse.* ^^ I started with Torchwood too, then saw one ep of S3 Doctor Who, and was like, 'Yeah, I'm watching this.' First season is amazing, and from what I've seen, the rest just gets better.

*Though, I personally think it's more like Hotel Doctor Who. You can check in anytime you want...

Yeah, I'll get through TW first and then start on the first season of Who, I guess. ;0

I'm definitely in for the manslash! ;)

manslash, girlslash, everything and everyone slash, and then they went and topped it by making fandoms slashy OTP an actual canon couple

....I'm surprised the planet didn't crack in half from the squee.

Having made an effort to watch some of the old Who stuff (and failing miserably), I think it's pretty safe to say that new Who and Torchwood are both made in an environment much more hospitable to crazy fangirls. This could be because the head writer and producer is an openly gay man. I mean, as AWESOME as Joss is, do you think he would actually take Spike (for lack of a better example) and say "Spike will have sex with any woman, er, anyone!, wait that's not it... anything with two legs! or four legs! oh hell... if there's a hole, it's all good. Also let's give him his own show."

I think this is why there is so much wank about the show. Because the guys who have been watching it since they were in the womb are like "THE DOCTOR WOULDN'T ~~~DO~~~ THAT, HE IS ASEXUAL!!" and the fangirls are all "OKAI, NOW I AM GOING TO BE WRITING SLASH FIC BETWEEN THE DOCTOR AND CAPTAIN JACK, AND... WAHT PLOT? I DON'T EVEN SEE A PLOT. IT'S GREAT!!!!!!"

Sorry for the capslock abuse there. In short... I don't think you'll get any grief for getting into a geek fandom. The geeks have been outvoiced this time around.

Well, I'm enjoying it so far! But I can definitely see where the wank comes from.

Ooooh yeah. Lance borrowed Torchwood DVDs a couple months back from the owner of the comic book store he goes to.... I already liked him from his appearances in Dr. Who, but man oh man I was hooked after watching those.

TORCHWOOD YAY!!

Though, I'm apparently a mutant Torchwood fan, because my favorite character is Owen. I mean, he's an obnoxious prat, but he's an entertaining obnoxious prat! And stuff happens when he's there, instead of everyone angsting and stuff!

And everyone sexes everyone. It's really made of win. :)

Yeah, I already can't stand Owen. What can I say? I like the angst.

And the sexin. =)

There isn't anything wrong with pretty people angsting, but I like it broken up by someone being a complete tool. It helps the pacing. ;)

Sex is good. A canon where everyone is bisexual is better. It's a bisexual soap opera, with aliens! What's not to love?

Hmmm. Well, there is something to be said for that. I mean, that's what Jayne is for too.

And a pterodactyl!

From: [identity profile] seimaisin.livejournal.com
That's it! Owen is Jayne, only shorter and more weasely looking. :)

And a pterodactyl!

No show that features a pterodactyl can be not awesome.

I loathed owen right up to Ghost Machine, then I started thinking "ooh, they get to tip him on his head..."

Here's hoping the char dev works out better in s2. S1 was a bit hack-handed, but then again, they did the whole thing in an insane 6 months...

From: [identity profile] seimaisin.livejournal.com
Yeah, somehow Owen turned out to be the most potentially interesting character, outside of Jack, who could just sit there and breathe and be interesting. :) I do hope that s2 is more even! I think, now that they've figured out who these characters are, and now that s3 DW has given Jack some closure, they'll have a better idea of where to take everyone. Can't wait! :D

What do you mean "given in"? It's a great show. :) Yeah, I know, I'm behind... and torrenting for me sucks ass now so I'm going to have to wait until someone A) burns me a DVD of everything or B) puts it on Netflix.

Sames goes for Doctor Who (starting with first season with Dave Tennant).

Is there such a thing as too much geek?

Date: 2007-08-06 03:46 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] leighblack.livejournal.com
Giving in because I keep getting told by my friends that I should be watching both shows. And I've kept saying no, it's not my thing. And it's not, really, but I'm going to give it a try anyways.
