Trip details: 6 1/2 hours, 430 miles

Since I had the day off and could leave whenever I wanted but Lee had to work, I ended up getting to Lincoln much earlier than she did. I got ready and chilled out in the hotel until she & Nikki arrived around 9:30pm. They did a quick-change and we headed out to the bar in lovely downtown Lincoln. We managed to find some close parking and it was free!

Since Lee had already talked to Chad and told him that she needed to be on the list +2, I didn't bother calling him myself. Yeah. I think we all know where this is headed. We walked in and Lee was only on +1. =/ I didn't see anyone around and didn't feel like tracking anyone down, so I just paid to get in. Not a big deal, really. But still, I can't remember the last time I had to pay to see FP.

Bang Tango was already playing when we got in and the area around the stage was really packed. There were a lot of people there! But what else is there to do in Lincoln?? We tried to smoosh into the crowd as best we could. BT sounded okay. I was never a huge fan of theirs, so I didn't really know many of the songs. It was the 4th day of the tour and Joe Leste was already starting to lose his voice. Not a good sign. I spent part of their show checking out the merch table so that I could pick out what Chad would give me in exchange for having to pay to get in. =)

I saw Sean Tichenor (aka Stimulator's bassist) walking through the crowd and, since I knew he was working as FP's tour manager, told Lee to grab him to say hello. He chatted with us for a few moments and we told him that we felt sorry for him for having to deal with all the FP drama. He said something along the lines of "I don't know what I was thinking" before saying he had to get to work and left. I was highly amused by the fact that he was wearing a Stimulator shirt, because I'm always amused when musicians are wearing shirts with pictures of themselves on them.

Once BT got off the stage, we pushed our way through the crowd and ended up at the front of the stage. Somehow I ended up exactly where I wanted to be, between the monitors with a perfectly direct view of Chad. Other than Sean, we didn't recognize any members of the road crew. Of course, we were just amazed that they even HAD a road crew. I'm so used to poor Thomas having to do everything. They even had something resembling a stage setup, with a projector and screen on the wall behind the stage. And banners with the FP skull, which made me happy because my tattoo matches the band again! =) Then they dragged out that damned curtain to put up in front of the stage. I hate that stupid thing. No fog machine though, so I wasn't going to complain too much. It sure felt weird not to be yelling for Thomas behind the curtain.

The band finally went on stage and the show started. The curtain dropped and I MAY have started screaming like a huge, dorky fan girl. ;) The setlist, if you care:

The Power & The Glory Hole
Whorehouse
Slip of the Tongue
Number 1 With a Bullet
In Denial
Submission
House of Pain
You're So Vain
Sex, Drugs & Rock-n-Roll
Hey You
Bathroom Wall
Babylon
Shut Up & Fuck

The show was pretty darned good, with some awesome crowd energy. Since the last time I saw them was the disaster at The Whisky, this show seemed practically perfect. Michael Thomas only agreed to do the tour 4 days before the first show, but he sounded amazing! I couldn't pick a better guitarist for the band. I was shocked at how good Taime looked. He definitely lost some weight and chopped off the scraggly ends of his hair.

Chad saw me in the crowd pretty much right away. He made faces at me and tried talking to me during the show a few times. Like I was supposed to figure out what he was saying. Okay, I figured out when he wanted Jager, but I wasn't buying any since I had to pay to get in. I may have even told him to fuck off. Just kidding, of course.

Danny Nordahl & Chad Stewart

Taime sat down on one of the monitors for "House of Pain" as he often does. It was quite humorous though, because while the rest of the crowd was screaming and reaching for him, the three people directly in front of him (Lee, Nikki and myself) really had no desire to be that close to him. Especially poor Nikki, who had an eyeful of Taime!Crotch. As the crowd surged towards him, we tried to back away. Chad also made lots of faces and not very kind hand gestures behind Taime's back. *g*

The show ended and we waited around to talk to the boys. I found some very conveniently placed chairs by the merch booth and plopped down. (Chairs>Standing in heels) That's exactly where Chad found us when he came out to mingle and get love. Except that I gave him the cold shoulder. He was all "What??" and I explained that "I had to PAY to get in!" He apologized and then he & Lee got into an amusing spat about how he's a dumb ass and can't hear when people say +2. (well, that's my interpretation of it anyways) I assured him that it was fine, especially since he'd be giving me a T-shirt. He rolled his eyes at that one.

He sat down with us and we all talked for a while. He whined about not getting any Jager during the show, but said that he now realized why I hadn't gotten him any. He told us that Thomas' baby had indeed been born a few weeks before. A little girl whose name escapes me. Then he went into a rant, since Thomas still hasn't sent him a pic or anything. That's not right.

I spotted Danny over at the merch table and skittered over to get a hug. I love Danny hugs! I love how Danny always recognizes me as "that girl" but never really remembers who I am. I get so entertained by that. Anyhow, I haven't seen him in over a year so I showered him with the adoration he so richly deserves, then went back to sit down with Chad & the girls.

Lee started complaining to Chad about not getting her CD in time for the show. He sounded a little exasperated. He asked us to make a post on the board about how the band knew there was an issue with the CDs getting out on time and to say that everything should be fixed now. He snuck over to the merch table and grabbed a CD for Lee, saying it was from the band for her troubles. He looked at me and said "You have it already, right?" I shook my head no, saying I bought the mp3 download instead of the actual CD. He sighed, then went back over to grab a CD for me too. Which is exactly why I didn't buy a copy. I knew I'd get one. =)

We moved over to the bar area to get drinks. And yes, Chad bought ME a Jager shot. I told him I had a very important question. "How the hell can you guys afford two buses?" Because, yeah. I figured they'd all be crammed into one bus. Or maybe a bus and a van. But two buses? That's expensive! Chad explained that they knew some people and got the buses at an okay price, but he even wasn't really sure how they were both getting paid for. Especially since he was already in debt for having to pay for the projector and the screen for the stage out of his own pocket, although they were Taime's idea. There was a lot of whining about how their bus was crap though, since the air conditioning had already broken down twice.

Michael was over by the bar too and he started talking to Lee & Nikki, since they've known him for a while. He turned to me and said something about how I'd been at the Fastback show last year. I was a little stunned that he remembered me, but said that yes, I'd been there. Honestly, he is so freaking nice and adorable. I will never have anything bad to say about him! Chad bitched about Eric Griffin & Brent Woods dicking them over, but was really happy that Michael was with them. He kept insisting that they've never sounded better, which I have to agree with. I asked Chad if the real problem had been that Brent Woods was above the height limit for FP guitarists, and he just laughed. I don't think Michael liked it so much though. Whatever. I'm short too. Deal.

I talked to Chad for a while about a lot of stuff. The upcoming Dopesnake CD, for one, which should hopefully be out soon. And what's going on with the new Motochrist CD, Corvette Summer. And what the hell is going on with the Stimulator CD, since they keep getting bumped around on their label. Now he thinks they'll settle on Downtown Records and may hook up on a tour with Gnarls Barkley, since that's they label they're on. That would be pretty damn cool! I want that band to bust out big so he can get away from doing crap like this rinky-dink, completely unorganized tour. We also talked about that and how he was totally fed up with Artists Worldwide and how they had handled this tour. He wants to join up with Sean and his wife and do the booking themselves. And about how Steven Adler was in rehab (again) and not supposed to show up until next Friday. I was a little miffed by that, because I wouldn't be there for that show, and I wanted to watch the train wreck at least once. Plus, Chip Z'Nuff was for sure going to be playing bass for him, and I do love the Chippy!

A not-very-pleasant woman kicked everyone out of the bar, so we moved our gossip session out onto the sidewalk. Xristian was out there with us and actually being social. I asked him what was wrong, and he said it was just that he was on his meds. That actually explained a lot. Lee & I gushed about how happy we were that he brought the Gay Flying V on tour. Best guitar ever! He whined about how he hates that people call it that. So, of course, we kept it up. Chad even got in on that action. We actually talked to X for a long time. I told him about how I missed the school girl outfit, and he told me the story about how he lost the skirt at the Party in the Pasture show when some big, burly guy made off with it. Interesting. Also how T's half-brother had bought them oil-based paint instead of water-based. So after they dumped it all over themselves for the show, they couldn't get it off. Somehow, it came out that he's the same age as Taime, which I never would have guessed.

Xristian Simon and the Gay Flying V

I pestered X for a photo together, since I know how much he hates them. "How many photos do you have of us??" "I don't know. Not that many." "I know. And one turned out really blurry." Me: *jaw drops* That happened four years ago. I have no idea how he remembers that. We did get a photo though, although he's not looking at the camera. Fucker.

Me & Xristian

Now, if need you know anything about Chad and I, you should know that we're friends. With that, we bicker. Some would even call it arguing, perhaps. And I pick on him. A lot. All in good fun, of course. I love that Diva to death! Anyhow, my favorite thing to pick on him about is how he shaves a few years off his real age. He used to be a little older than me. Now we're the same age. I'm sure after our birthdays in Sept he'll end up being younger than me. I believe Lee's great quote was how he remembers his real age like he remembers my real name. Because no matter how many times he writes it down, he NEVER remembers my real name. (yes! My name is not actually Leigh Black *shock*)

I also got on his case about never emailing me back: "Yes, I do!" "No. You don't." "When didn't I email you back?" "I've emailed you like three times since I saw you last month and you haven't emailed me back once. I even sent you that Butch Walker song!" "I got it." "Yeah, and you didn't even bother to say thanks!" "Yes, I did!" "No. You didn't." Typical conversation on our part, I would say. =) I didn't even start on how he deletes my MySpace comments because he doesn't like when I rag on Hall & Oates.

We hung out on the sidewalk for quite a while, just yammering about different things. So it's all a little jumbled together in my head. He did tell us about the Cathouse 20th anniversary show at the Key Club on Oct 10th, which is now the highlight of my fall. Because I should definitely have the money to go! Although, at that point, I was a little apprehensive about getting excited for it, since Chad always tells me about grand plans that never seem to work out.

Chad started raving about their new guitar tech, Chris, and his awesome freestyle rapping skills. We all gave him dubious looks at that one. He made Chris come over to our group and introduced us all. Then made him do a rap about Lincoln. And it was great! I loved him already!! Plus, he totally remembered our names, and I always give props for that.

Sean wandered by a few times. Chad pointed out that he'd also been wearing his Stimulator shirt, but had to change so that they wouldn't look completely gay wearing the same shirt. I mentioned that I didn't wear my shirt all that much. "What? Why not?!" "Well, because you're on it." Ha ha. Lee complained that the Stimulator shirt he'd given her looked totally bad and she wanted a different one. He gave an exasperated sigh and wandered off to find their merch bag. Me: "Well, as long as you're getting one for her..." Of course, he came back with two shirts. Lee took the maroon one and I got a pretty blue one. "I don't want to hear about you not wearing that!" "Yes, dear." He's such a good boy!

Since I know how reliable Chad is and how well he remembers my real name, I wrote my name and Lee's down along with our +2 for the next day on a piece of paper and took it over to Sean. I told him that Chad is horrible about remembering things, and since he was in charge anyways, would it be okay to get us into the show tomorrow. Sean said that it wasn't a problem and I could get whatever I wanted. Ooh! I like a tour manager that learns fast. =) I gave him hug and requested that he remember me as the nice girl, and not the super drunk girl from Nashville.

Somewhere along the line, I got photos with both Michael and Chad.

Chad & I

Somehow, I got suckered into massaging Chad's poor shoulder for him. Always a good thing for my carpal tunnel, of course. I kept trying to stop and would get a "no, keep going." I finally had to switch hands because my right one gave out. Did he return the favor? Of course not!

He started to look tired, and we had been sitting on that sidewalk for a very long time, so we decided to take off. We all got hugs and kisses and then headed off for the car. I was starving, so we tried to find somewhere to eat. Lincoln might be cute, but it doesn't have a lot of late night options. We were stuck with McDonald's, but at that point I didn't care. We sat around the hotel room and talked for a while, then drifted off to sleep.

A good first day!
