Fun With Hallmark

So, at work tonight an older lady comes in and asks if we have anything for Cinco Day Mayo - pronounced as something you'd spread on bread for your sandwich, rather than the Spanish word for May. I correct her pronounciation when I say sorry, but we don't have anything for Cinco de Mayo. She again says it incorrectly when she says she's looking for Cinco Day Mayo cards in Spanish, like she got here last year, and they're probably in the Mother's Day section. I again correct the pronounciation when I say that Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day are completely different holidays. She tells me that well, it's like their Mother's Day. At which point I am completely dumbfounded and have no response.

Like Mother's Day?!?

I won't even start about how horrible the last two days have been at my real job. I really, really, really need a couple days off, but I can't take them because, once again, I don't have anyone to back me up. And my manager still hasn't bothered to learn what it is I even do, much less how to do it, so that he can back me up. I did notice today that BlueCross BlueShield of MN has a lot of openings right now. It's very, very tempting.

I still have 108 pages of my book club book to read. Shit.

I know for a fact that at the BCBS of MI people do very little actual work and get paid entirely too much money. I don't blame you for being tempted.

Yeah, I still don't get it. At all.

Ha ha. I believe that. I have to contact some of those BCBS of MI people for my job. They're a little more with it at BCBS of MN. I just think it may be time for something different. And closer, as the gas expense is starting to really be a problem.

You know, this year we're combining tributes to mothers with the independence of nations. ;) Fewer holidays, less time off for workers. The corporate world will love it! This, of course, is just a trial run to see if combining holidays will work, since no real employers give time off for Cinco de Mayo OR Mother's Day. (And if you can find one that does, submit my resume for me please!)
