leighblack: (TW - Rhys Has Had It With These Aliens)

I'm trying to come up with some thinky thoughts about last night's episode of Torchwood and I'm just not that coherent this morning. But I LOVED it. Love love love. This is what the show always should have been! I do still love the episodes Ashley Way has directed, but Euros Lyn has totally blown him away as the best director for the show.

Ianto was slightly less woobie than Day One. But still woobie. This is annoying. Although I will admit that I cheered OUT LOUD when he rescued Jack.

Rhys was without a doubt the best part of the episode. Hands down.

SO. Jack's arm was pretty much intact when they found it. Skin and everything. Then it turned to bloody ruins while he was regenerating? Huh?

ETA: Also, the shady government agency caught when they were searching on Clem's name. But didn't catch it when Ianto was tracing the truck's license plate? Really??

Did you see the preview for tonight's ep? THE COAT. It's back. WTF??? Does Jack keep a supply of them in a secret bunker somewhere??

I LOVED Rhys's "Let me hold your bag, you do want your trigger finger free don't you?" ROTFL at that.

YES, cheered for Ianto in the big orange truck

Nekkid Jack is always a good thing!

LOL! I made the same comment about the clothing. :D

I didn't quite enjoy last night as much as Day One, but it was still pretty awesome! I'm just flabbergasted at the fact that Jack grew back from a head, a shoulder, and an arm. I mean, DUDE!

And yes, I cheered, too, when Ianto showed up. :D

I do approve of where ever it is that they end up shopping for clothing, because tonight's suit is the one that's super snug on GDL's behind. Yes, shallow!Leigh is shallow.

Day Two was definitely more story-driven than Day One's action-driven, so it's not as fast paced. And story is something Torchwood has always had problems with. But I still think it turned out well.

Yeah, I like snarky Ianto too...but, given he watched his lover get blown up and then encased in concrete...while people were shooting at him...well, then, I'll give him his woobbie moments. LOL. I'd be curled up in a tight ball under the docks if I was him!

I wonder if this will be that jack has an extra rift manipulator as well?

Also, I kind of am in love with Ianto!Logic, aka how to get Jack out of disaster: Throw Him Off A Cliff (I guess we know his choices is Cliff, Shag, Marry would be Jack, Jack, and probably not Jack.)

and Rhys was awesome! I love that even when outrunning the government spooks, he is concerned with food! hee!

I don't know how I feel about the nekkid!Jack thing. I mean, obviously, YAY. But yet, was it integral to the story? Or totally just to get people talking that JB was nekkid for a lot of the episode? Because, of course, OMGNEKKID!JACK is the main thing fandom is focused on right now and not how amazingly awesome Rhys is. Or how awesome the story is. And I worry that it's drawing attention away from the other things that were great about the episode. (just like the kiss in Day One - SO MANY PEOPLE focused on that when there was so many other good things going on too)

Ugh, it's too early to be this thinky about stuff.

Maybe he keeps an extra piece of the TARDIS there too, because I'm kind of sad that the Baby TARDIS was in the explosion. Not to mention Myfanwy and Janet. And Suzie and Tosh and Grey...

I enjoyed the Cliff Shag Marry macro that showed up last night. Also the Jack in a Box one. There's little glimmers of hope in this fandom yet!

Hey, food is important! I know where he's coming from.

haha, Jack in the box, didn't think of that one! I did love that they happened to put the room and concrete on a pallet for ease of Ianto's construction stunts. Have you seen GDL's upclose yet? I love him with the whole "Ianto.. in Space!" bit

Regarding the nekkid!Jack that you were talking about above- I agree, it was funny (maybe not as much as Nathan Fillion in Firefly, which is exactly what that scene reminded me of), but not really necessary. (Also, why does the Barrowman freak about a picture with his shirt off at a convention, when he goes stark for 6 million people on television? weird.).

I love Rhys's priorities, because that is exactly what I would be thinking about too! and awww, Baby Tardis! It'd probably survive, but finding it may be another story?

Well, duh. What else to you pour concrete onto? Also, don't pay too close attention to the actual size of that room and the size of the box. *hand waving*

No, I haven't had a chance to watch the Up Close stuff yet. Tonight, for sure.

Mal being nekkid was awesome and funny and an amusing end to that episode. (end? get it? har har) Jack being nekkid...was just Jack being nekkid. I don't know. I get annoyed by blatant fan service, I guess.

I was talking to L about it (and bitch gets to watch it in real time whereas I have to wait, so she was all like I WILL NOT GIVE YOU SPOILERS EXCEPT FOR RHYS IN BOXERS AND NEKKID JACK), and she, who is not in fandom, said:

"Well, hopefully there will be a lot of fic about Rhys being so awesome in the episode. There's so many ways you could go with it."

And I kind of laughed sadly and said, "Do you know how little fic is written about Rhys?" And we were both sad, because Rhys is AMAZING and was just SPOT ON ALL EPISODE and everyone else is just JACK WAS NEKKID.

Yes, yes he was. Now NOTICE THE OTHERS, DAMMIT.

I'm guessing in the US airing they'll be much less nekkid Jack so maybe Rhys will shine even more so.

Kai did do a fabulous job with a really well written role last night. *fingers crossed for more*

That end scene is going to be about 2 seconds long on BBCA. I cannot possibly imagine that they'd get away with showing that much nekkid!Jack. Unless they just pixel it, I guess.

I totally agree. I'm so glad they had so much for Rhys to do. Now I want Andy to get some real screen time too!.

There ARE Rhys (and Andy!) fans out there. But I'm sure they've completely gotten drowned out or discouraged by the constant Jack/Ianto push in fandom. (and I'm saying this as a huge Jack/Ianto fan girl myself) Fandom will ALWAYS be like that though (Jordan/Woody insane shippers, anyone?) so I don't know why I let it bother me.

OMG, I kept forgetting to say that PC Andy was brilliant last night! "Gwen Cooper is not a terrorist"! And while I love Jack and Ianto, you're right, there is a huge bias towards those two. Though OMG YOU REMINDED ME OF JORDAN/WOODY SHIPPERS and now I have to go kill myself in memory because dear god, they were horrible.

I mean, not as horrible as some of the Janto folks out there.

But close. So close.

Yeah, I noticed quite a bit of WTF? moments when I watched it too, but I tried not to be too critical. I really loved the ep, and I think it's adorable that you cheered! Out loud!

PS: Woobie? Definition please?

From: [identity profile] leighblack.livejournal.com
Well, there's always WTF moments in television. Torchwood usually has TONS of them. But this series really is a lot better than normal and I feel bad about nitpicking it. Yet I continue.

Uhhh, this (http://www.gapersblock.com/airbags/archives/let_go_of_the_woobie/) kind of explains it.

Yeah, and I've often wondered about Jack's coat myself. Like, all the times he gets shot and whatnot, but the coat is always in perfect condition!

And when watching the last episode, I was wondering too how Gwen was able to just walk right in there without being recognized.

Thanks for the woobie definition. Sadly, I must admit, I have a tendency to be attracted to those guys as well. :/
