OK, Leigh, OK whoa. First of all, though, is it really bad LJ etiquette to randomly reply to a post just to give a shout out to someone? Because that's totally what I'm doing.
I'm sitting here trying to concentrate on skool but failing miserably. I got all crabby because I found out that I'm still having sound driver problems despite finally having Stereo Mix recording (sound out of the headphone jack is all crappy). Well. In the process of researching this, I've stumbled upon last.fm.
Omigod. Leigh. I think this could be a very serious problem. I've seen your posts about it, but what's it all about? Holy dang buckets, what have I been missing? I may have just stumbled upon a melodic trance heaven, but I wanted to hear your experience with it. Anything I should know?
Hey, fun that you found a cool co-worker that digs TW!
Of course it's okay! LJ has many random, useless uses.
Hmmm...are you talking about listening to the music on last.fm? Because honestly, I never do that. I pretty much just use it to keep track of my listening stats, because I'm a geek like that. But I know there are many people out there who do love the player.
You might want to check out Pandora too. You can enter a song or artist that you like and it will create a playlist for you. http://www.pandora.com/
It is pretty cool. Usually I get blank stares when I talk about TW.
Um, gawrsh, I guess just Last.fm in general. I really have no clue what it's all about. Looks like the only way to hear full songs is via the radio that randomly plays stuff in the genre one likes...or can you create playlists if you sign up? Do you get totally spammed if you sign up?
Yay, I'll check out Pandora, too! Ooo this is so exciting. Muuuuuuuuusic....mmmmmm......
Know any good comms that share this stuff I like? Errrr...seekrit things? Hee hee.
Okaaay. Well, last.fm started out as a way to track what you listen to. You could add a plugin to the music player on your computer and it would send the information about what you played to the website. The website kept charts of which songs and artists you listened to and how many times.
It's greatly expanded since then. And truth be told, I don't keep up with all the features. I just like the charts. But you can also get your iPod plays to get added to your charts now, which is good for me since that's usually how I listen to music.
If you sign up, download their little program and start playing music, it will create a playlist for you based on what you've listened to. It takes some time though as you need to have enough songs charted for it to know what you like. (my playlist is CRAZILY random) I can't say that I've gotten too much spam from there.
Sure! I'll send you an invite to my seekrit music community. Hopefully you can find some stuff you'd like. We post A LOT of music.
ha, just found a house mix to 'What About Us' that I really like! I mean, still cheesy but kind of more in a Cher sort of way. have you heard this version at all (link)?
