It appears that Coleman has squeaked out a victory over Al Franken. By 762 votes. Out of 2.9+ million votes. 762 votes. If you've ever said that your vote doesn't count, you are dead wrong. They'll definitely be doing a recount, but most places have declared Coleman the winner.
ETA: Now the vote difference is only 571 and the AP has uncalled the race. The recount won't begin for a couple weeks and could last into December. Insane!
Unfortunately, it looks like Prop 8 passed in California, although it's still unofficial. Oh, California. How can you do this to us? How about all you other jerkoff states too?? I want to be so hopeful, but this is a crushing awful blow for equality in our country. Hopefully we can try again in two years once the country has had some separation from the conservatism that's had its hold here for so many years now.

Date: 2008-11-05 04:59 pm (UTC)i made sure that I got my voter registration in PA because it was supposed to be a big "battleground" state (it was close but not that close I think), but I wonder if I wouldve been better doing an absentee ballot back to MN still! I guess this is going to play out in the courts now? if something happens, post an update because i sometimes forget to look at the MN papers!

Date: 2008-11-05 05:17 pm (UTC)The Star Tribune is now saying the difference is 344 votes (http://www.startribune.com/politics/national/senate/). 344!! Coleman is claiming victory, of course, but it's definitely not going to be confirmed anytime soon. I'm sure you'll even be hearing about it out there, but I'll definitely keep posting about it.

Honestly, I'd have rather had the rights of the people. I'm so disgusted with CA right now.

Date: 2008-11-05 09:10 pm (UTC)GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
One of the best families I have seen in all of my dealings was a gay couple who adopted two boys from Russia. They were so happy and well adjusted, especially considering everything those boys had been through. All children need is to be loved and allowed to grow into the person they were meant to be and these men were giving those boys both of those things in spades.
As if there aren't enough assholes having babies who shouldn't. As if there aren't enough babies in the world growing up without a loving family. Now these F*CKEERS are telling my neighbors who have lived together for 12 years that they can't have a baby. Or the single woman or man can't adopt if they decide they want a baby in their life and want to do it responsibly and by their choice. I don't care that they say the target is gays. The target is anyone who doesn't fit into the christian family unit; man, woman, married by god, children conceived while reading the bible.
I support gay rights completely but seriously people, if your not careful, it's going to effect everyone. (Speaking to conservative jerkwads) It amazes me how some republicans think. Overall they don't want interference from the government except when they don't like what their neighbors are doing. Then bring in the court systems and elections to tell everyone that they are living their lives wrong. It's a stupid double standard. I know that liberals have their own faults too, but at least they don't say
"No interference! No interference! No interference, except you! (Points finger)"
It is so hard to find good, suitable homes for these children. In a fair world, everyone who voted "no" should have to adopt one child since those babies chances of finding a home have been diminished by the F*cking Asshole's vote. Oh, it makes me sooooooooooooooooooo mad!
But no, I'm sure those children should all just die and get going to hell anyway since they don't fit the family values picture either. I should know; I am a bastard too and I wear my badge of bastardom proudly. So screw you! (Conservatives, not you Leigh)
That's right! And guess what? I have a heathen baby too, and you can't touch him, so there!!!!!!
