Since I picked up some new friends from Can't Stop the Serenity and since it seems to be the thing to do this week, I thought I'd post one of those "about me" thingamabobs. There's also an old one here that's somewhat still relevant.

Family:
I talked about my family in that entry and didn't even mention the most important member: my Scottie dog, Riley! He lives with my parents since I'm not home enough to even take care of a plant, but he's still my baby. He even has a MySpace page! He's 13 now, which is fairly ancient for a Scottie. Riley has arthritis and my dad thinks he's losing his hearing (although I think it's just selective since he hears the word "treat" perfectly fine) but he's still relatively healthy. He lives a good life of sleeping and eating and fishing.

We won't mention my mom's weird dog, Earl.

Oh, and my brother, D.J., is out of school now and moving to Korea at the end of July. He'll be teaching there for two years, then wants to go to South or Central America. When we were all growing up, I never would have guessed that I'd be the one to stick around the homestead, but here I am. And I'm not planning on going anywhere.

Stuff about me:
I live alone and I love it. Actually, I love living alone and I love my apartment, but I hate where it's located. My suburb is rather quiet with not much going on and my neighbors are full of suck. I'm not home much though, so it's not too bad. I have no real desire to purchase a house or do things that an actual adult would do.

I have two jobs once again, both of which I will bitch about. You've been warned. To give you an idea of how wonderful my day job is, this post and this post explains what our lovely holiday bonus was. But, I ended up with 36 days of personal time/floating holidays this year so I can't complain too much. That's pretty much the only reason I don't go looking for something else. My 8 year anniversary is in August and it's still a little hard to believe.

I also work at a small, possibly dying Hallmark store in my hometown. It's not the worst retail job I've ever had, but it's close. The only saving grace is that it's usually dead in there and I can sit and read a book while getting paid. And my boss is pretty cool. And my mom works there too and sometimes she'll bring me food. =)

I like to color my hair with colors not found in nature. Unfortunately, my work is not too fond of this so it doesn't happen much anymore. But it's been blue, pink, magenta, lavender, purple, orange and green in the past. Right now it's black and burgundy. I have no idea when this will change. I tend to get lazy about keeping it colored until I start to see the gray strands appear again.

If you are around me enough, you will hear me whine about my bad ankle. I twisted or sprained or strained it or something TWO years ago and it's never been the same since then. No, I've never gotten it looked at. In fact, when it first happened it wasn't a big deal at all. It just ached a little bit and I figured that it would go away. But after a couple months of wearing my sandals that don't quite fit right, it got worse and now I'm not sure that it'll ever be better. It sucks.

I also have carpal tunnel in my right hand/wrist. Which I'm definitely going to have to get looked at this year. I lose all feeling in my hand at least 3 or 4 times a day now. This is not good. I don't knit because of this and I've had to stop doing cross-stitch lately too. I wear my brace when I remember about it, but it's too muggy & hot to wear it much now.

Music:
I don't even know where to start with this, other than to say I'm a fan. Of no music in particular, or rather nearly all music. I listen to a wide variety of bands/artists/genres. I'm all over the place! Although I do have a special affinity to pop rock/power pop and music from the late 80s/early 90s. Faster Pussycat is my favorite band, but I'm also very partial to Butch Walker and Kasey Chambers. And Madonna. And Shooter Jennings. And...yeeeeeeah. A lot of different artists! I'll occasonally post music to share in my journal and I'm always happy to download things that you guys post too.

And no lectures about downloading music, okay? I can't even begin to count how many CDs I buy a year because I liked something I downloaded. It's a lot.

I also spend more time and money than I ever should on stalking artists around the country. I haven't done very much of it this year though. I've actually gone to quite a number of concerts here in the Twin Cities, which is kind of strange. I haven't even been to Chicago once this year! =O

Books:
I read a lot and buy a crapload of books. Certainly more than I read. I read lots of vampire fic, paranormal romance, historical romance, music bios and other biographies. For a long time my favorite author was Anne Rice. Then she went off the deep end and my fave became Laurell K. Hamilton. Now she's kind off the charts too, so I've been without a real favorite. Possibly Kim Harrison.

Movies:
I own a lot of DVDs. A LOT. And I never seem to get around to watching them. Possibly because the DVD player is on the other side of the room from my computer desk. I don't go out to the theater much anymore, although I just had a run where I saw Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End three times and Waitress four times. And Spider-Man 3 on the iMax, but the less said about that the better. My favorite movie is a toss up between Reservoir Dogs and Clerks and maybe Se7en. I'll give any one of those as a answer in a meme.

TV:
I watch a LOT of TV. But I've been watching it less lately and not just because it's summer. My favorite show ever is Homicide: Life on the Street. I'm also a big fan of Firefly and anything involving Law & Order. And I'm completly addicted to VH1 Celebreality! There needs to be a support group or something.

Fandoms:
Certainly too many to mention. Firefly/Serenity, Nathan Fillion, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Office, Bill Hicks, etc. I don't really have an OTP at the moment, but I'm starting to buy into the Rayne (River/Jayne) ship. I don't usually read a whole lot of fan fic, but I've been bored at work lately so I've been reading way too much Firefly fic/slash.

Wow. This is truly a random collection of odd stuff about me that really has no common thread. Kind of like how my brain works. If you have any questions or anything though, feel free to ask! I certainly love talking writing about myself.

Oooh Kim Harrison! I like her alot. I just finished Dead Witch Walking and have bought the next two, so I think I'll probably start on book 2 soon. I have not read Laurel K. Hamilton, though I have thought about it. Is she anything like Harrison?

The Kim Harrison series is fabulous! I'm having serious withdrawal waiting for the next book to come out.

Yeah, there's similarities between KH and LKH. Up until book 9 of the Anita Blake series. It all falls apart in book ten. =/

Danse Macabe yes? I was reading reviews of it on GoodReads.com and most of the ratings were 2s or 1s. Even by die hard LKH fans. Which is sad because a title like Danse Macabe has SUCH great potential LOL. I am interested in the Merry Gentry stuff though...

Dance Macabre is actually #13. #10 is Narcissus in Chains. But truly, the series is pretty excellent until that book. It's definitely worth trying!

The faerie series is okay, I guess. It's all sex sex sex plot point sex sex sex. But some people really dig it.

Oh okay. That's depressing about the Faerie series. I'm not into that all sex all the time thing....How many Anita Blake novels are their anyway? LOL.

The Harelquin is the 14th Anita Blake novel, and there was also a novelette in there somewhere.
