So, here's my review of the Butch Walker show. Yes, I know I need to do my Faster Pussycat tour diaries yet. This one is going to be much quicker to do, so I'm doing it first. Yes, I will get the FP ones done this week. I have them all written up on paper now (since I was doing that at Hallmark), it's just a matter of typing them up and adding photos and stuff. Okay? Good.

Show: Butch Walker & The Let's-Go-Out-Tonites / As Fast As / Boys Like Girls
Where: Fine Line Music Cafe in downtown Minneapolis, MN
When: Friday, August 4th
Setlist: Uhhhhh...I don't really remember exactly. To the best of my memory - Ohhhh...Ahhhh, Hot Girls in Good Moods, #1 Summer Jam, Too Famous to Get Fully Dressed, Maybe It's Just Me, Bethamphetamine (Pretty Pretty), Ladies and Gentlemen...The Let's-Go-Out-Tonites, Don't Move, Mixtape, Paid to Get Excited, Indie Queen, The Taste of Red, Don't Move, Joan, Cigarette Lighter Love Song, Best Thing You Never Had, Crazy and Lights Out
Who: Me & Jaime ([livejournal.com profile] seimaisin)

Since I've shared my love of The Butch with Jaime, it seemed only natural that we go to the show together. I've never actually seen Butch live before, which is tragic. But he usually plays at The Ascot Room and I hate that place. The Fine Line is much nicer and I was super excited for the show! We stopped by Pizza Lucé before the show, then wandered over to the bar.

There was already a crowd of emo kids in front of the stage, but I figured we'd still be able to get close. Since I actually had some money, I bought a T-shirt and THE cutest booty shorts. Which I will NEVER wear out of the house. We made our way into the crowd and waiting for the first band.

I really, really liked Boys Like Girls, even though they were totally a little emo band. But cute. And young. With happy little pop rock songs. I enjoyed their set a lot! I did NOT like the crowd. A giant, drunk, neanderthal frat boy was next to me and I was in constant peril of him shoving his elbow into my face as he did his white boy dancing. And he & his friends talked and talked and talked and constantly moved around and were generally being annoying. Then frat boy dropped his drink all over. That was it. I couldn't handle it anymore and we moved to the other side of the stage.

Karaoke between bands was actually a very good idea. All the people were pretty entertaining!

I didn't dig As Fast As's music as much, but I totally enjoyed their gimmick! I don't know how that dude played the drums in that chicken suit. Or how the bass player was in that full gorilla suit. That had to be hot as hell!

Bunny!

Bunny Chicken!

And a Gorilla!!

Butch came out and joined them for a cover of that Radiohead song. There was much cheering. And then he stood near me and I tried to covertly snap some photos.

Butch watching As Fast As from the side of the stage

So, as we were waiting for Butch to start, they cranked up the dreaded fog machine. Dammit! I knew it would screw up my photos, and it did. I could still take them without a flash, but I was kind of too far away for that to work quite right. But we did have a pretty sweet spot on the side of the stage, so I didn't want to try to move. They had big "NO VIDEO" signs up around the bar, but I knew I could covertly shoot video where we were standing.

So, the band finally came out and it was awesome! A great set list, great music and a completely entertaining Butch. I couldn't have asked for anything better. It was the last night of the US tour, but no one looked burned out. They had a lot of energy. And the crowd really responded well. Except for the annoying people. Like the emo kids who took hundreds of pictures of themselves. (??) And the annoying guy who kept barging into our section of the crowd and trying to mess with people. I actually kicked him.

Butch Live!

More Butch Live!

Anyhow, the show was fabulous and I loved every single moment of it. "Best Thing You Never Had" was everything I could have ever wanted. And he did "Indie Queen"!! *claps happily* I heard he had added into the set, and I was super glad we got to hear it. "Lights Out" was fucking fun! And that's what shows should be about!

After the show, we decided to wait around for a while. The guitar player from As Fast As was persistent in trying to sell their CD, so I bought a copy. We waited for quite a while, after the lights were turned on and stuff, and Butch still hadn't come out. I was still feeling like crap and I had to work early the next day, so we decided to just go. I'd like to meet Butch, but it wasn't that big of a deal. He'll be back!

So, the short version is: It was a good time! =)
