So I've got this big fancy new desk, and nothing to put on it.

I need suggestions! Okay, it's not completely empty. I have the same things that were on my old desk. I just have about 3 times the space, so it looks horribly empty & impersonal.

The full section
(forgive the rudimentary scribbling - I only have Paint to work with)

Everyone needs a couple Beanie Babies on their monitor

Look at the vast emptiness! I want to get a plant for the table, but I really need some more ideas.

This is a HUGE empty space. So much could go here!

Empty space from the other direction - or, I'm just playing with my phone.

Might as well have a pic of me in here too, since I'm such a cam whore. And my hair looks cute today.

I've thought about bringing in a box full of toys to set out on the desk, but I'm sure I don't need to look more immature than I already am. I could also buy tons of cheap frames and put out more photos. Not that I need MORE photos, but I do have more. So, any suggestions you guys have would be welcome. What are things normal-type people keep on their desks?

Hmm... good question(s). My desk isn't as big but it's full of work-related crap already. I don't even have anything personal hanging up. Hmm... I need to change that.

Go to Staples and see if they have anything that strikes your fancy.

I wish my hair would behave and look pretty curly. *jealous*

As for ideas for what to put on your desk... You could do more photos, which are always fun, and I definitely suggest a plant. (I love my plants.) Bamboo (or multiple bamboo) are great because they're nearly impossible to kill as long as there is SOME form of light (including just overhead lights) and you keep them watered.

I kinda like your box of toys idea. Heheh.

Let me ponder this a bit longer. And maybe peer at some of the pro staff's desks to see what kind of stuff they keep on them. ;) Heheh.

See, normally I would have work crap everywhere, but it all fits somewhere now so I no longer have massive piles of papers sitting around.

Wandering around the office supply place is a good idea. Thanks!

Believe me, I used to HATE my hair. It used to be so icky and frizzy. I've put a lot of training into it to get it to look decent, and now I like it.

Ooh! Bamboo is a great idea!! One or two of those would look nice on my desk, then something more leafy on my little table.

I have SO many toys sitting in boxes. More beanies, wrestling figures, Reservoir Dogs figure, Star Trek figures...They're all just sitting in my extra bedroom collecting dust.

My hair behaves when it's curlified only when I use about 300 different hair products. (My sister has this awesome stuff that's specially made for curly hair, which is weird because she has the STRAIGHTEST HAIR EVER, but it does wonders on my hair.)

Bamboo are great. I love mine. One of my summer goals is to repot the one, because it's gotten too big. (I just need to figure out HOW to repot it, first.)

Hehe, maybe you could just take some of the toys out and set them up on your desk. Stage all sorts of scenes! Hehehe. (I would. But I'm silly like that.)

All I use on my hair is a little gel. And I have to deep condition it about once a week during the summer. That's it. It's okay - you can hate me. ;)

My mom just keeps her bamboo in a vase with water and rocks. No soil. Doesn't that mean you just give it a bigger vase/pot to repot it?

When I worked at the hardware store, we kept wrestling toys at the Customer Service counter. I frequently found them propped into compromising positions.

It's not very original or creative but no problem. hehe.

You just made me want to personalize my cubby-hole... and now I have printed out a couple pictures. I'm prepared to be made fun of for it. ;-)

Personalizing is fun! As long as you're going to sit there all day, you might as well make it as pleasant as possible.

I get crap all the time for the Van Helsing poster that's still in my cube. But I still keep it up.

I'm keeping it minimal for right now with a picture of Hayden with his "Sith Happens" shirt and a pic of Ken as Hamlet with the dagger, looking in the mirror...

It's all so exciting! *bounces, staring at pictures*

....I am so jealous. My hair is a frizzy mess all the time. Which is helped by the fact that it's just now recovering from my sophomore year horrible dye job of horror.

Yeah, and more rocks. And bigger vase. I just don't want to rip the roots when I do repot it. Which worries me, for I'm a clutz.

Hehe, that's funny. I say you do that at work. (I do it with Data and Picard, my Star Trek figures, all the time.)

It's taken a long time to get my hair here. Have you ever looked at the book Culy Girl? It might help. I'm not going to start in about my color. I cannot get the red out, but I'm resisting giving up and coloring it all black.

I'm sure it can't be all that hard. Just be careful.

Yeah, I don't think that would go over very well here. Not everyone has a sense of humor.

I can't believe how clean your desk is! They are ready to put up yellow tape around mine.

It helps that we just moved not too long ago. I threw out tons of crap that I didn't really need. Give me a couple more months and I'll have papers stacked all over, I'm sure.

I would suggest something anti-stressy or something you could play with while you think... like Legos or you can get those poseable magnetic men or something... um... one of those ball things that go click clack back and forth...

Ugh, I am lacking in the creativity department today. Me sorry.

Wow! I was totally thinking about bringing in Legos!

Never even heard of it, but now, I'm curious. My roots are growing in - medium brown against the red - and I need to get more dye. Except I don't want to do it AGAIN. Sigh.

I try to be careful. This sometimes fails.

Really? That's a shame. My office would find it hilarious. (We're a naughty bunch, we are.)

I ROCK!!!
We are SO on the same wavelength.
That's awesome. :D
I don't have as much space on my desk as you... granted I don't think my deskspace is as vast as yours, but I have little knick-knacks here and there.
Woot!
I'll let you know if I think of something else...
