I only paid $1.98/gal for gas this morning! *facepalm* That's the first time it's been below two bucks in...well, a real long time. That's a nice way to start the morning.

As part of the new and improved me that does not spend money on random crap, I actually went to Best Buy last night and ONLY bought what I went there for. No extras. Just printer ink & blank DVDs. I was pretty proud of myself!

And yay! Laurell K. Hamilton's Stroke of Midnight comes out today. My copy will be hand-delivered by a B&N employee, because I rate.

Damn, $1.98? That is cheap! Our regular gas is up to $2.61 in some areas.

[identity profile] leighblack.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you're always going to pay more out there than we do here. But, it's been hovering around $2.30-2.40 for a while. We're not used to that 'round here.

To be honest, I have no idea what gas is going for in Houston. I have been without a vehicle since Allison decided to destroy my poor ford......but I'll soon know as I am going to be renting a car in May so that my Mother can be taken to visit one of my brothers. I am so terrified that gas is going to be more than the rental cost itself.

I don't know. I keep hearing vague rumors that they think it might not get as bad this summer as it was last summer. *shrugs*

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know..keep having flashbacks of the other great Gas Shortage...having to only be able to fill up on certian days, not being able to just top off your tank..had to have only a certian amount in your tank...AND be in line for hours at a time to even get gas.....horrible flashbacks.

I doubt they'd ever let it get that bad again. Bush would open up the pipelines in Alaska so fast it would make your head spin.

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Would he?

But alas, this is a fun group and I'll not post my feelings about political situations....lol....

Well, political opinions are always welcome in my journal, even if they differ from mine. I'm definitely not against intelligent discussion. =)

But it's a nice, quiet morning and there's no need for me to ruin it with my rantings against our government.

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 02:42 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL....well I'm one of those "lefty, pinko, commie liberals" according to one caller who called into my favorite radio program on pacifica radio....lol...so hey.....you sound like you might be one of us....ohhhh....think Rummie has us on some kind of list?

the activist.

Me? A lefty? Absolutely not! *stuffs icon in box*

Let's just say that I'm proud to be in a blue state.

And I fully believe there's a file on me somewhere. *looks around suspiciously*

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I LOVE THAT ICON.

You really should go to http://www.theothersideonkpft.com/, click on the "Archives" and listen to some of Dr.'s Glen and Stacy's shows. It gets pretty wild.... and if you go to http://www.kpftx.org/archives/kpftsignal/ and look up Thursday nights...there is a thirty minute show called "The Inner Side" that comes on right after "The Other Side" with Scooter....and he has some hilarious parodies he creates. This is where I am from 11:00pm to 1:00am (central time). I can't miss either of these two...I adore the way Glen just goes off sometimes and to be honest, I find alot of useful information and websites through this program.

As far as being from a Blue State...you're so lucky. I'm from a deep Red state and last election, my nephew voted for the first time...I had to sit and try to explain why the votes in Texas were going to be automatically counted for Bush and his cronies...it was hard and for a while, I thought I was again going to be the only voter in this family. BUT he's beginning to understand the fine art of activism and how to change things one step at a time...He'll be voting in upcoming elections.

I had a bunch of anti-shrubbery icons last year, but I've cycled most of them out. I hang onto this one though, because I love it.

Thanks for the links! I'll check them out when I get a chance. You'll find me listening to The Al Franken Show every afternoon. He has some really amazing guests. I like to think I've become a lot smarter about things since I've been listening.

You should have seen me last fall trying to sway my brother over to my side. Somehow, and I still don't know how this happened in my family, he's seriously conservative. He's goes to school in South Dakota and got all caught up in the smear campaign against Tom Daschel. I tried to re-educate him with, you know, the truth, but I don't think it worked. Oh well. At least he voted.

I've only recently discovered Air America. I've been a KPFT listener for almost ten years now when I discovered it quite by accident. Now it is on in my room 24/7. Some things I don't agree with, and some things I don't know how I couldn't have seen before it was brought to my attention.

I'm a big fan of Michael Moore and Jim Hightower, and have read all their books and seen all of Moore's works except his first...(which I am looking for now.) What was it, "Roger and Me"????

Anyway I am just now getting into Chomskey and Gore...but haven't quite found a connection yet..I think it is more the style of their writing and not the content. I think they are the kind of writer's I have to be in the mood to understand.

At the moment, I have KPFT streaming on the computer, listening to the Confirmation hearings. Yesterday's had me in stiches when Boxxie had the dude by his yang yang and wouldn't let go.....Kerry actually had balls at one point while he was questioning him too....why couldn't he have found those balls while running against Bush...not that he is much better.....but ashamedly I was one of those Anyone but Bush voters.

I don't listen to all of the Air America shows. That Springer show is dull. He needs guests or a co-host or something. But I do listen to Al & Katherine every day.

Yep, Roger & Me was Michael Moore's first movie. I've only seen pieces of it myself.

As much of a book geek as I am, I don't read that many political books. Mainly, just because I'm usually so busy I don't have the time or attention span to really devote to a serious book. Most of my reading is complete fluff.

Those hearings yesterday had some really great moments! I just don't understand how anyone can look at Bolton and think he'd be a good fit for the UN. It's mind-boggling. Ahhhhh Kerry...it's still disappointing how charismatic he became when he gave his concession speech. Why then?? Why not earlier? He's not a boring guy. He does actually have some spirit. No bad he didn't really show it during the campaign.

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Unlike Moore, Hightower is actually not only informative...but a very fun read. More than once I ended up laughing when reading "Thieves in High Places." He's just a good ole Texas boy....Of course, reading his things just concreted my resolve never to shadow Walmart again. Even in the tightest of times, I refuse to shop there. Can't seem to make members of my family understand why I don't shop there...but they know me well enough i don't do a total boycott without good reasons.

Actually I really do like Kerry and would vote for him tomorrow if he ran again. However, what I didn't like is the fact he did not stand up strongly for some of the issues that I truly feel his has strong views on. I don't know if it was his lacky's that kept a bit in his mouth or if he really wasn't in the position where he really wanted too but was forced to run. I'm not sure what happened, but I've seen more life out of that man since after the elections. If that could have been bottled and used on the campaign trail....things might have turned out differently.

Sadly, I do still shop at Wal-Mart, because there isn't really much else around me. Plus, my uncle's ex-wife works there and I like to stop by and say hello once in a while.

It's so hard to say what Kerry was told to do or not do while campaigning. It's all turned into such a circus. Anything you firmly stand up for gets skewered by the other side. It's such a farce. If he could only have been more personable, I think he would have won. But how sad is that? He needed to be more of a people-person to win? The general population doesn't care about the real issues. It's better to be ignoratn, I guess.

[identity profile] devisun7.livejournal.com 2005-04-12 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
You do what you have to do. If it actually came down to starving or shopping at Walmart, I'd shop there. As it is I have several other chain stores (one of which I worked for and know they treat their employee's like crap also) and there is one Mom and Pop store I try to buy the family's meat at (they are relatively inexpensive and thier butcher loves to flirt with me since he found out I flirt and do not take flirting seriously)

I agree with you completely on Kerry. And I sometimes wonder if one of the other democrates had won the Presidental nomination what would have happened.....

Did you like my message? Could I have sounded less enthusiastic?

Yeah, like I mentioned: VACATION. Need one. Stat.

[identity profile] leighblack.livejournal.com 2005-04-13 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
Why yes, I did enjoy your message. I should demand to be referred to as The Legend at all times.

Uh, where do you live again? We still have 2.14 a gallon. *cringe*

In Minnesota. I actually saw it at 1.95 someplace tonight. Crazy!
