WHAT THE FUCK? Kevin DuBrow dead at 52. I just...wow. That's hard to believe. I've never been a huge Quiet Riot fan or anything, but I've seen them live twice and enjoyed them.

Okay, I've finally gotten around to listening to the new Duran Duran CD today and it's pretty much a pile of crap. This doesn't make me too hopeful for JT's upcoming collaborations with Madonna.

It is FREEZING in my cube today. Like, wearing a sweater and a hoodie and gloves freezing. brrrrrrrr

So I'm all "I don't need to record this Jersey Boys tribute to The Sopranos because they'll have the Broadway cast on, not the new Chicago cast." And I couldn't have been more wrong because I looked over at the TV and there indeed was Jeremy Kushnier and I still kind of adore him and now I'm mad at myself. *sigh* Guess I'll be looking for a torrent tomorrow.

In other news, I'm watching the Emmys. I'm not sure why.

these last.fm stats are actually more entertaining )

I've been sitting here tonight, just idly adding CDs to my iTunes that I've downloaded and left just sitting here. And I'm not even a quarter done and I've already added 428 songs. How does this happen? I have a terrible music addiction.

My God I hate this stupid Macy's commercial more than anything right now.

My *happy dance* moment of the day: Pre-ordering Shooter Jennings' new CD The Wolf! Along with a vinyl copy too! It comes out on Oct 23rd, which is three days before we're seeing him here in Mpls. I'm very excited! You too can pre-order a copy right here.

I will hopefully have my new work laptop tomorrow. CubeMate in the Closet got his today and he's been showing off how fast he can run things now. Jerk. =( Oh yeah?!? Well, now people are going to expect you to do work while I'll still have the excuse of having a shitty computer. ("Yeah, I would, but my laptop's frozen again" gets said a lot) I have a bunch of extra programs that need to get loaded though and the IT dude didn't quite have mine ready yet.

Tonight is the Jon McLaughlin/Sara Bareilles and someone else show. I'm kind of too exhausted to go to a show, but I'll be there anyways. At least the Varsity has plenty of tables.

My Cube looks SO Office-tastic now!
leighblack: (Riley - Big Ears)
My quandry on which TV show to watch next has been answered since I got the first 6 episodes of The Young Ones today. DO WANT.

It's kind of difficult to get 8 different people to the State Fair from several different places, but it can be done. I think everyone is accounted for now for tonight. I am very excited to 1) buy an "Absoloutely Sventastic" shirt and 2) have an apple cider float. Oh and see Weird Al, of course! Since we're not going to have a lot of time tonight, looks like [livejournal.com profile] seimisin and I will be heading back to the Fair on both Saturday and Sunday. Wheeee!

I really want to like The Alternate Routes CD, but I'm not really feeling it. It's a little, err, boring. I guess. Maybe just a little too calm. I like my alt-country to have some bounce to it at least some of the time.

I pretty much despise everyone in my office today. That's not likely to change at any time this week.

I really miss my dog since he's been at the cabin with my mom all month. But he came home yesterday! I can't wait to go see him tomorrow. He'll probably just look at me like "what?" and go back to taking a nap.
leighblack: (Two Guys - This is SO great!)
You know what happiness is? Finally coming home after a craptacular Monday back at work after a week of vacation and unexpectedly finding your autographed Matt Nathanson CD sitting in the mail box. YAY! =)

(although, I'm not sure which way I'm supposed to turn it to make the signature resemble anything even close to his name *g*)

ETA: Also, the grocery store had the new Keri Arthur book. Today is made of win after all!
leighblack: (Hugh - Horns n Stars)
I'm listening to the Rock Star: Supernova CD since it leaked yesterday. Wow. Even if I didn't already know it was Butch producing, I would know after just listening to the first song. It's so him! I'm on track 8 right now and the CD is actually pretty decent. I'm one broke bitch after the trip to Iowa, but I'll definitely buy the CD after I get paid on Friday.

Can we talk about The Fountain for a moment? I know [livejournal.com profile] dazeebean said she wanted to go, but does anyone else want to? I'd love to go on Thursday, but that broke thing again. So, either Sat night or anytime on Sun works for me. We'll be meeting on Sat night at Kerasotes ShowPlace in Inver Grove around 9:10. Let me know if you'll be there!
leighblack: (Rent Movie - Dancing Her Dance)
Does anyone else have Anthony Rapp's Look Around CD? I acquired a perfectly legal copy of it a couple weeks ago and am just listening to it now. It's really freaking good!! Not that I thought it would be bad, but I'm not so OMGRENTOBC!!!!1111!!!! that I would automatically say it was fantastic. (I don't care much for Adam Pascal or Daphne Rubin-Vega's CDs, just as a reference) But this is fab! Very Butch Walker-Johnny Monaco-pop rock vibe. If anyone wants it, let me know and I'll upload it.

I'm home!

Yes, I'm back home. And happy to be here. Even if my apartment is approximately 1000 degrees. =( This weekend was nice, and I didn't want to kill any of the members of my family, so I'd call it a success.

The new Peppermint Creeps cd was waiting for me in my mailbox. Whoever decided they should cover "Turning Japanese" is a genius.

I finished Dead Witch Walking and LOVED it! You guys were totally right. It's fabulous! I can't get the image of a tall, cool vampire driving a motorcycle with a mink & a rat riding on the gas tank out of my head. Makes me giggle whenever I think of it. =) I'm about a hundred pages into The Good, the Bad and the Undead already and love it too.

I'm going to wade through my email and f-list now. Wish me luck!
leighblack: (Chad - Band Whore)
I was all excited to watch Steve's episode of Charmed when I got home from work yesterday. Only to turn on the DVD Recorder and realize that there was nothing on it. Even though I know I set it up. grrrrr... I'm sure I did something wrong though, so I have no one to blame but myself. And, of course, they're not running it again or anything. *GAH*

So I think I checked my settings about ten times when I set it up to record the Rent performance on the Today show this morning. I even briefly debated calling in sick so I'd be home to record it, but since my boss is out, that wasn't really an option. The show was already shown on the East Coast and the Rentheads are all ga-ga over it. They did both "Seasons of Love" and "What You Own." YAY! At least if I messed up recording this time, there will probably be a video of it up on the internets before I even get home.

I blame my stupidity on being exhausted lately. It must be the heat or something, but all I want to do lately is sleep. And drink water constantly. Today is cooler though, so hopefully I'll feel better.

In my never-ending quest to stalk Chad Stewart, I bought this CD the other day by a band called Triggerdaddy. Well, not a band so much. More like one guy I've never heard of (Tim Karr - who's rather pretty), with a bunch of guest musicians. Gilby produced it, which is how Chad got on it, I assume. Sadly, I'm such a fangirl that I can tell which songs Chad did without looking at the credits. But...they did a cover of Prince's "Peach" and that's NOT one of Chad's songs. Hello?!? What's up with that??

And...

Do you read my journal?

If you read it on a regular/semi regular basis, leave me a comment and let me know.

Then post this in your lj and find out who reads you.

Does anyone have Jani Lane's Back Down to One? (Gee, there's a question I never thought I'd ask) Because this CD that Chad gave me, which he did with Keri Kelli, has a lot of the same songs on it, since Keri co-wrote them Jani. I kind of want to hear the differences in the songs, but not enough to pay $5 for it on eBay. If anyone would want to send me a copy though, I'm sure I have something you'd want in exchange.

Last night, [livejournal.com profile] duckduck, [livejournal.com profile] auroram and myself traveled out to Bunker's on a school night. A girl at the bookstore's friend's boyfriend's band was playing. Holiday! Normally, that sounds like it would be a recipe for disaster. But no. They were really good!! I had a great time!

They had a trumpet(!), which seemed to be mainly so they could play "Ring of Fire."

They also played, besides their own stuff, Snoop Dogg, Ace of Base, Kelly Clarkson, The Buggles, and uhhh, other stuff. I know it sounds weird, but it was completely enjoyable!

From almost the moment we got there, the power of The Legend seemed to be working. ;) I think [livejournal.com profile] auroram was a little mystified because she's never seen The Legend in action before. But the singer started talking to me from the stage right away and ended up singing to me quite a bit. What can I say? I have some sort of magical powers, I guess.

Because we are easily suggestible, and there was alcohol consumed, we all bought a copy of their CD. The guys in the band all came over to chat with us and mingle. I introduced [livejournal.com profile] duckduck to the wonder that is the Jager Bomb, so we were pretty happy and giggly. The bass player is a major book geek and launched into a dissertation about how wonderful the B&N Bargain section is.

On the way home, we had a sing along in the car, featuring Kelly Clarkson and more 80's songs than you can shake a stick at. Good times!

They're playing around here like a bunch of times coming up, so I'm sure I'm going to see them again soon. (Like, say, Sat night) Wheeeee!

[livejournal.com profile] duckduck, who I hope doesn't mind that I posted this, because she looks adorable!
leighblack: (Nigel - Your Face it Haunts)
Have you ever done something that you know is a bad idea, yet you do it anyways?

Read only if you don't mind angsty musings )

In other ponderings, does anyone else become totally fixated on a certain song? And then you have to listen to it over and over again? I admit it, I'm totally hooked on Kelly Clarkson's Breakaway CD. (and if P.J. Farley from Trixter says her CD is good, then it's okay for me to like it) For some reason, I cannot stop listening to "Addicted" and "Where is Your Heart?" They're pretty much constantly on repeat.

Oh, and I know someone who is selling a 2-DVD set from the first Crue show in FL. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can give you the contact info. She didn't mention how much it was, but I think she sells DVDs for $25. She included a couple caps in the email and they look pretty good, so I suppose it depends on whether or not you want to pay.

I tried doing my taxes online this weekend, since everyone's been raving about doing it that way. But, I was exhausted on Sat night while doing them, so I saved and went to finish them last night. And it came back that I owed them $803!! Like WTF??? I don't think so. So I pulled out the forms and just did it myself instead. And now I owe them $73. Just a bit of a difference. Somehow, I always end up owing a little bit to the federal taxes, but then get a bunch back from the state. Which is exactly how it turned out. So, online tax submission was not such a good thing for me.

I got a very kick ass Valentine's CD from [livejournal.com profile] pimpstresslana yesterday! It has some really great songs on it. And it's perfect, since I was just bitching last night about needing some new CDs to listen to at work. I always like getting new music and listening to stuff that other people like. Would people be interested if I set up some sort of mix-CD exchange thing? We wouldn't want to open it up to everyone in the world, but enough people to keep it interesting. Even with the cost of the CD, a slimline and postage, it's still under $5. And if you only had to send a CD to someone every two weeks or so, it wouldn't be a big expense. I'm going to think about it, but let me know if it's something you'd be interested in. If no one wants to do it, then it's no big deal.
leighblack: (Default)
I totally redid my Christmas mixCDs a couple days ago. A few of the songs had really gotten on my nerves. Plus, I had forgotten a few good ones and the order was obviously wrong in a few parts. The new & improved song listing ) I have no real reason for posting this. I'm just trying to keep myself awake and if I play one more game of Solitare my brain might explode. I haven't had any work to do since about 8:30 this morning. That was 4 1/2 hours ago. I'd just leave, but then something important will come up and no one here will be able to do it. So, here I sit. Somehow, I think I'll be a little bit busier at the bookstore tonight.

Whew!

Okay, I am now very, very glad that I got our Wicked tickets during the presale. Tickets officially went on sale about 25 mins ago, so I thought I'd look to see if I could find better tickets, just out of curiosity. One of the shows I had been looking at is already sold out, and tickets for the other ones are already well into the balcony. That's cool though, because it means they'll get a great reception. I'm vaguely interested in getting tickets to the final performace for myself, but it's Memorial Day weekend and I'm sure I'll be basking on the beach in lovely Northern Minnesota.

I have no real news to report. Nothing much has been going on. I've gotten some Xmas cards from you all. Thanks! I love getting love in my mail box. Rikki babe, I need your address so I can send love back! ;) I also got a very nice card from my boss. It's nice to be appreciated for the work you do, you know? I'll be dog sitting for my parents once again this weekend, which means that I once again, won't get done the things I need to do on my computer. I'm tempted to pack it up and drag it over with me.

If anyone cares, Here's the track listing for the Covers CDs that I made ) Thanks for everyone's suggestions! I'm sure I'll ask for your opinions again soon, as I'm suddenly all about making my own CDs again. I was always one of those geeks that was big into making the perfect Mix Tape, so this is just an extension of that. Although, Chuck Klosterman has an interesting essay in Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs about how the Mix CD doesn't hold the same appeal of a Mix Tape. Good reading!
leighblack: (Ashlee - WTF?)
If you can't tell, I'm working on new mix CDs to bring to work. I'm getting tired of the CDs I've been carrying around, and I'm sure my coworkers are tired of showtunes. So, my next couple CDs are going to be GOOD cover songs. Covers seem to be all the rage right now, although I can't stand any of the Korn covers or Manson's "Personal Jesus." I pretty much know which songs I'll be using, but I'd like to see your suggestions in case there's songs I'm forgetting. There will be two CDS: one that's more low-key and acoustic (with songs like the Pumpkins' "Landslide" and the Cowboy Junkies' "Sweet Jane") and one that's more rock music (such as Manson's "Tainted Love" and FP's "You're so Vain").

[Poll #403127]

In case you're interested, my favorite cover songs are Pearl Jam's "I've Got a Feeling" and Kik Tracee's "Mrs. Robinson" and perhaps the Newlydead's "Cities in Dust."

And I totally can't believe I forgot Hugh's "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" on my Christmas CDs. I must have been asleep!
leighblack: (Default)
Since [livejournal.com profile] divachickie found it hard to believe that we didn't have any snow up here yet, I was toying with the idea of taking a few photos outside. Then I arrived at my parent's house this afternoon and I was completely inspired. We've had the most vicious wind today (gusting to around 60 mph!). And since my mom's Christmas decorations have no snow to anchor them down, this is the scene I arrived to.

Snowmen Massacre )

I'm sitting here finishing my Christmas cards so I can mail them out tomorrow. If anyone else wants a card, make yourself known now! Lee, yours might be late, since I have a little gift for you too, but I'm not sure which box it ended up in. I'll look this week.

Oh, and I made my Christmas CDs yesterday. Here's the song listing )

BTW, because it's driving me nuts, does anyone remember the version of "Mr. Grinch" that was on the radio a few years ago? They played it all the time around here, but I can't remember who did it. Anyone??
leighblack: (JK - Smile in Your Eyes)
Look at what I bought! I'm so freaking excited!! This is, hands down, the BEST Christmas special ever. And my mom taped over my copy long, long ago. *shakes fist at mom* But now I'm getting my very own copy. YAY!!

Thanks to everyone for their Xmas song suggestions! I'll be making CDs tomorrow and I'll list what I put on them. But, [livejournal.com profile] duckduck, you should know by now that there's no chance N'Sync is getting on there. However, I might be able to find my copy of "New Kids Got Run Over by a Reindeer" from back in...7th grade? Something like that. Still a classic.
leighblack: (Your Eyes)
So, I'm somewhat in a Christmas mood this year, which is strange for me. I'm even planning on putting up my tree tonight, provided that I can stay awake long enough. And that I can find enough strings of lights that still work. I want to make a couple CDs of good music to combat the horrible music we're stuck with at the bookstore, so fill out my poll with suggestions!

[Poll #399634]

My personal favorite song is Jill Sobule's version of "Merry Christmas From the Family" off of the You Sleigh Me CD. Or pretty much any of the songs from John Denver & The Muppets: A Christmas Together.
leighblack: (Kissy Face)
I keep listening to the same CDs at work. I need to make some new mix CDs, but I have no idea what I want to do. I need someone to do my thinking for me. So...

Give me some suggestions for mix CD themes!

Make it as weird or cliche as you want. I can match songs to just about anything.
